When wishlists come up as a TTT prompt, I typically don’t share a link… but what the heck! I’ll jump in with my Amazon wishlist this time around. Really, I’m not terribly comfortable asking people for anything! Mainly, I’m posting this to say — here are books I want to get my hands on… and here’s hoping the Library Hold Fairy works her magic and gets them to me quickly!

It’s that day of the week again…

I enjoy two different Tuesday memes, and this week, their topics align — so I’m linking up with both!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes. There’s a prompt to include a link to our book wishlists, so people can grant wishes if they choose to — but honestly, I’m not particularly comfortable with that, so I’ll just list a bunch of books that I hope the Book Fairy brings!

*Also… as I’ve mentioned in past years, Santa doesn’t visit my house… but I do enjoy looking at new books by the light of my menorah!*

This week’s topic is Top 5 books I want for Jolabokaflod, and the prompt is: The year we were travelling Europe for Christmas is the year I discovered Jolabokaflod — the Icelandic tradition of giving books as gifts on Christmas Eve. Which is honestly like the greatest tradition I’ve ever seen. So, which books would you like to receive if you celebrated Jolabokaflod?

Honestly, I love this question, and I think celebrating Jolabokaflod is going to have to become my family’s next/newest holiday tradition!

Getting down to business…

Here are my top bookish wishes this holiday season!

A Darkness Absolute by Kelley Armstrong: This is the 2nd Rockton book, and I’d be happy to own any and all volumes in the series!
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon: An upcoming book group read.
I’ll Be Waiting by Kelley Armstrong: I’ve already read this book as an ARC, but would love to have a hardcover edition for my shelves. A signed copy would be even better!
The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey: Another that I’ve read in e-book format — but a hardcover would go so well with my Expanse series books.
The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore by Evan Friss: I don’t tend to buy myself non-fiction books, but I think this one would be a great gift to receive.
Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell: This book has gotten so much buzz this year, and after reading a different book by this author, I’m eager to check it out.
You Like It Darker by Stephen King: I usually try to keep up with Stephen King’s new releases, except when they’re story collections. Still, I wouldn’t say no if this showed up at my house!
The Morning Gift by Eva Ibbotson: There are actually a bunch of books by this author that I’d like to read.
The Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis: I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this book since I first heard of it, but I’ve been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for the Kindle or hardcover price to drop.
The Bewitching Hour by Ashley Poston: It’s a Buffy prequel! About Tara! I don’t think I’d buy it, but I’d be happy if it fell into my lap (and if not, there’s always the library).

I’m not comfortable linking to a wishlist — I’m not asking anyone to send me anything! At most, if someone owns a copy of a book on my list and wants to do a book swap, I’m open to it — but actually buying me something? No, but thanks anyway!

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Haven’t Read, But Want To

In no particular order, my list includes:

Jess Kidd: I own two of this author’s books, and I’m especially interested in reading Things in Jars, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

2. Jesse Q. Sutanto: The “auntie” books look so cute!

3. Stacey Lee: I have one of her books, and love the sound of at least one more.

4. Mike Chen: I keep picking up Kindle books by this author because they sound so good, yet I haven’t read any of them (yet).

5. Elizabeth Acevedo: I own one of her books, and know there’s another that I need to read as well.

6. Sarah Pinsker: The sci-fi award-winning author’s books sound really intriguing to me.

7. Sarah Moss: Another author where I own one book, and have another on my wishlist.

8. Peng Shepherd: And again — I have the first book below (unread), and I’m wishing for the second.

9. Kate Quinn: I feel so behind when it comes to this author! I have copies of three of her books, and have yet to read a single one.

10. N. K. Jemisen: I’ve been wanting to read both her Broken Earth and Inheritance series, but have never quite found the right time to start.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish wishes to wrap up 2021

This week’s topic is about Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes, with an option for people to share their wish lists and then grant one another’s wishes. Check out the info over on the host blog if you’re interested!

I’m not sharing an actual clickable wishlist, and I’ve already either received or treated myself to a lot of books this holiday season… but here are a few bookish items that I dream of, even though they’re mostly big splurges or hard-to-find items or just silly treats that I wouldn’t ever expect to spend money on.

One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I borrowed a copy from the library and loved it. I’d really like my own hard copy, but the physical book was released as a limited edition hardcover and the few sellers I’ve seen listing it have it marked very high. This is a someday, maybe wishlist item for me!

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

I would love a hardcover edition of The Goblin Emperor, but these are very hard to come by, as far as I can see. I’m hoping there will be a reissue at some point, with a cover to match The Witness For the Dead (and the upcoming new release The Grief of Stones).

Pride & Puzzlement jigsaw puzzle

The price isn’t bad — but I just have so many puzzles in my house already that I can’t justify buying another right now!

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki

This isn’t hard to find or outrageously priced… it’s just that I really don’t need to buy myself more physical books right now. I’ve been wanting to read this, but it’s not a big enough priority for me to rush out and grab a copy.

Elizabeth Bennet Pop Funko

How did I not I not know this existed? This is Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (which I’m not ashamed to admit that I love!). There are other characters too, including Jane Bennet and Lady Catherine. Awesome!

Word Cloud Classics

I love these fresh-looking editions of classics! I have a couple, but would never say no to more.

Book Plates

I think it would be fun to have some pretty or whimsical book plates to put inside my books — for those rare occasions when I actually agree to lend a book.

Wooden Book Stand

Or really, any pretty or unusual or decorative book stand. Do I need this? No. But there are occasions (like when I’m eating a big sandwich but don’t want to stop reading) when I could see this being really handy!

Bookish socks (or any other bookish apparel)

I love Out of Print, and have so many of their t-shirts… but not nearly enough socks, hats, totebags, or accessories. There’s always room for more, in my humble opinion.

Saga Deluxe Editions

I love the Saga series, and have the trade paperback editions of all published volumes… but for years, I’ve had my eye on these hardcover deluxe editions too.

OK, so most of these aren’t at all practical, but isn’t that the point of wishes?

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 (okay, 12) books on my TBR list for fall 2019

My list is partly upcoming new releases, and partly books that I already own and still need to get to. And somehow, I ended up with twelve, because I kept adding books without counting and then couldn’t decide which ones to drop!

So, here are my top dozen book for the next few months. (Click on any of the book cover images to see larger versions.)

Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell: I’m so excited for the sequel to Carry On.
A Very Scalzi Christmas by John Scalzi: I don’t usually go for Christmas collections, but I’m happy to make an exception for John Scalzi.
The Toll by Neal Shusterman: The end of the Scythe trilogy comes out in November. I’m dying to see how the story wraps up.
Ivory Apples by Lisa Goldstein: I’ve been wanting to give this author a try, and was delighted to get an ARC of her new book, to be published in late October.
Laughter at the Academy by Seanan McGuire: A new Seanan McGuire novella! Need I say more?
Rilla of Ingleside by L. M. Montgomery: I started the Anne of Green Gables series in January, and I have only this book left before I’m done! My goal is to finish before the end of 2019.
The Blue Salt Road by Joanne M. Harris: A selkie story! I picked this up a couple of months ago, and need to get to it.
Witchmark by C. L. Polk: Yet another book that I picked up a while ago and haven’t started yet. Sounds terrific. Maybe I’ll make this and other witchy stories a priority for October.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik: I bought a hardcover as soon as it came out, and it’s been on my shelf ever since. Must. Read. Soon.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: Ditto. Shaking my head at myself for not reading this one yet — I’ve loved every other book by this author!
Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal: I think my next series project will be reading the five books in the Glamourist Histories, starting with this one (which I read long ago, but have mostly forgotten. Need to re-read before tackling the rest!)
A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny: I wrote a Shelf Control post about this book a few months ago. My plan is to read one chapter per night during the month of October, which I’ve heard is the way to go with this book. Sounds like fun!

It’s hard to narrow my list down to just 10… but here are ten books, mostly new and upcoming releases, that I’m really looking forward to reading during the next few months. Elevation by Stephen King: Never a bad time for new Stephen King!
Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness: A new story in the world of the All Souls books.
Lethal White by Robert Galbraith (J. K. Rowling): This series is so good!
Someone Like Me by M. R. Carey: Definitely up for a new book by the author of The Girl With All The Gifts.
Pride by Ibi Zoboi: Sounds like an amazing, fresh retelling of Pride and Prejudice.
Someday by David Levithan: I loved Every Day; can’t wait for more of the story.
Dry by Neal Shusterman: Having just discovered Scythe a few months ago, I’m dying to try more by this author.
And Their Ocean Was Our Sky by Patrick Ness: Sounds like an upside-down version of Moby Dick, told from the whales’ perspective. Maybe? The synopses I’ve read aren’t crystal clear, and I only just realized now that this is an illustrated book. Maybe a graphic novel? I actually have no idea, but I’m intrigued anyway.
Pulp by Robin Talley: This author’s books are always powerful, and the premise sounds fascinating.
The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner: Folklore/fairy tale — sounds amazing, and I love the cover!

Top Ten Tuesday: Gimme. Gimme now.

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early — which, okay, I don’t think I’d actually slay a lion… but would I sell my firstborn to get my hands on these books? Well, no, not that either. But I’d be really, really appreciative if these books fell into my hands — does that count?

So here are the books I’d be most likely to make grabby hands at, with much squeeing and a little bit of jumping up and down:

Without doubt, the #1 book I’d sell my soul for is…

Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon – book #9 in the amazing and wonderful Outlander series. According to Herself, 2019 is the soonest we can expect this book. Considering that the previous book in the series was published in 2014, is it any wonder that devoted fans worldwide are working themselves into a frenzy waiting and waiting and waiting? Gimme now, please.

Beyond that, I’d love, love, love to magically get early copies of:

2. The Winds of Winter by George R. R. Martin: Well, wouldn’t we all? Who know when this baby will be ready… maybe not until after the TV series wraps up? And if that’s the case, will we still want to read it? (Well, duh. Of course we will.)

3. Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness: Look, a book with an actual release date! This book continues the story of the All Souls Trilogy, and will be released in the fall. Can’t wait!

4. Night and Silence by Seanan McGuire: The 12th October Daye book, due out in September. After bingeing the entire series over the last two months, I’m dying for more!!

5. Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs: The 11th Mercy Thompson book! Man, do I love this series. Can’t wait for more Mercy… but sadly, wait I must. Storm Cursed will be released in March 2019.

6. Peace Talks by Jim Butcher: The 16th Dresden Files book. Yes, I’m on a roll with my urban fantasy series. Can’t help it — they’re all so good! No release date yet for this book, so we can only wait and hope that it will be soon.

7. The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden: The 3rd book in the Winternight trilogy will be released in August. I loved the first two books so much — dying to see how the story wraps up!

8. Competence by Gail Carriger: The next book in the Custard Protocol series comes out this summer, and I have it on preorder already… but would I be happy to have it in front of me right now? Of course!

And that’s where I’ll stop! Sure, I have plenty of other books I’m looking forward to, but these are the one I’m most passionate about… the one that might get me to reveal ancient family secrets, or pledge eternal servitude, or at the very least, promise to do all the chores, all year long if only I could get my hands on them!
