Top Ten Tuesday: Genre freebie — send in the clones!

snowy10

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Genre Freebie, with the prompt Pick a genre and build a list around it. You could do historical fiction featuring strong female leads, contemporary romance set in foreign countries, mysteries starring unreliable narrators, lyrical fiction books in verse, historical romance featuring pirates, Gothic novels with birds on the cover, etc. There are so many options!

After flipping between a few options, I’ve landed on science fiction for my genre… and getting more specific, I’m focusing on sci-fi books with clones, cloning, or other similar genetic shenanigans!

Here are a bunch I’ve found fascinating, including a few oldies:

  1. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
  2. Archetype by M. D. Waters (review)
  3. The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey (review)
  4. Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty (review)
  5. The Boys From Brazil by Ira Levin (check out this Flashback Friday post for more on this book and #6)
  6. Joshua Son of None by Nancy Freedman
  7. Micky 7 by Edward Ashton (the only one here that I haven’t read yet — the book is on my TBR, and I really enjoyed the movie!)
  8. Y: The Last Man (series) by Brian K. Vaughan
  9. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
  10. Extinction by Douglas Preston (review)

Have you read any great books about clones? I’d love to hear recommendations!

Which genre did you feature this week?

If you wrote a TTT post, please share your link!

  1. Jurassic Park is fun! I’ve enjoyed Crichton generally. Preston is also quite enjoyable. INterestingly, Crichton had a “bone wars” novel in the works — historical fiction about two paleontologists who were fighting to see who could find more dinosaurs in the American west — that was published posthumously.

  2. I love this idea for a post. Clones are interesting because we sort of already have them with identical twins in real life.

  3. Great topic! I started reading more sci-fi last year and I’m loving it. There are times things go over my head, but it’s getting easier. I remember reading Archetype when it came out and I liked it a lot.

    • Archetype was a while now, but I remember really being into it at the time! Glad you’re enjoying your sci-fi reading! There are so many options within the genre — there are some subjects or styles that don’t appeal to me as much, but I’ve found a lot to love too!

      • Yes, I have found some that are too out there for me. So far, I’ve been finding a lot of great reads in the genre! It could be that I’m just so behind. haha

  4. What a fun idea! My first thought was Six Wakes and The Echo Wife, so I’m glad you included those. Jurassic Park is a perfect book for the list as well!

  5. Ive read none of these although I have seen two of the adaptations. I dont think I’d know any books featuring clones or cloning of the top of my head but I do have a few of these on my TBR. Whats the Jurassic Park book like compared to the movie? I never know if I should give it a try.

    • To be honest, it’s been so long since I read Jurassic Park that I’m having a hard time figuring out whether what I’m remembering is from the book or movie… although my sense is that the movie was very faithful to the book.

  6. What a clever topic! I am not familiar with many of these but my interest is piqued! My list this week is here if interested 🙂
