My Monday tradition, including a look back and a look ahead — what I read last week, what new books came my way, and what books are keeping me busy right now. Plus a smattering of other stuff too.
Life.
I’m on a visit back east to see family this week. It’s hectic but fun… and I did get to do a lot of reading on the plane!
What did I read during the last week?
Not a single review written… but here’s what I read:
The Umbrella Academy: A graphic novel – just okay. I didn’t love the artwork, and overall, I enjoy the characters on the TV series much more than in the book.
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe: A re-read. The sequel comes out later this month, and I definitely needed a refresher! It’s been nine years since I first read this book. Really enjoyed it again the 2nd time around!
Anne of Avonlea by L. M. Montgomery: The audiobook was lovely! Can’t believe I made it this far in life without getting to know Anne!
And from last week:
Recursion by Black Crouch: Absolutely loved this book! I finished it last week, but just posted a review a few days ago.
Pop culture:
What’s a reader to do when she finishes a book on a plane? Switch over to Netflix for a charming rom-com!
Fresh Catch:
Two exciting ARCs arrived in the mail right before I left on my trip:
The grammar book releases in August; the Obama/Biden book in July. So psyched for both!
What will I be reading during the coming week?
Currently in my hands:
I have two different books on the go right now:
Now playing via audiobook:
Anne of the Island by L. M. Montgomery: More Anne! My plan right now is to keep going with the Anne audiobooks — so much fun to listen to.
Ongoing reads:
Two ongoing book group reads at the moment:
- A Fugitive Green by Diana Gabaldon, from the Seven Stones To Stand or Fall collection.
- The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens — our current classic selection.
So many books, so little time…
I need to check out Hope Rides Again!
I’m excited to read it — loved the first one!
Really looking forward to reading your thoughts on The Girl in Red!
I’m at about 55% right now — loving it!
I’m loving Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. Review coming this week or next. I binge-listened to all of the Anne books. They were sort of out-of-style when I was growing up in the 70s. I love the Obama-Biden Bromance continuing in mystery form!
I’m excited to hear you love Book Woman — I’ve only barely started, but it seems really great! I grew up at about the same time — maybe that’s why I never read Anne as a child? I don’t remember ever having the books around our house, and we were pretty avid readers! It’s never too late — I’m enjoying them now!
I’m not sure I could handle having The Umbrella Academy on my coffee table – the artwork is a little too racy for this house! And I’m so glad there’s another Obama/Biden mystery coming! Can’t wait to read Hope Rides Again 🙂
I’m excited for Hope Rides Again — although it might seem a little weird now that Biden is back in active politician status again!
I know – I was thinking it would be a one and done – I’ll have to tell my brother – I gave him a copy of Hope Never Dies and he really liked it! I’m definitely going to read it 🙂
I started the Outlander series and then put it down. I may have to pick it up again. I definitely preferred the first book to any of the others.
There’s something really special about the first Outlander book, but I do love them all.
I thought The Umbrella Academy GN was pretty awful, but I loved the TV show ❤
Ha, same here. Although I need to keep watching — I’ve only seen 3 or 4 so far.
