Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Top Ten New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2016. I love this topic! I “met” so many authors this year for the first time. Here are my top 10:
Note: If you want to know more about any of the books mentioned here, click on the links to see my reviews.
1) Blake Crouch: I thought Dark Matter was amazing!
2) Shirley Barrett: Author of Rush Oh!, a book that proves that reading about whaling in early 20th century Australia can be loads of fun!
3) Seré Prince Halverson: All the Winters After was one of my favorite books of 2016.
4) Fredrik Backman: I know, I know — A Man Called Ove got so much buzz this year… and I have to admit, it lives up to the hype!

5) Christina Baker Kline: I finally read Orphan Train with my book group, and thought it was wonderful. I look forward to reading more by this author.
6) Amy Stewart: Girl Waits With Gun was one of my favorites this year, and I can’t wait to read the sequel, Lady Cop Makes Trouble.
7) Sally Hepworth: The Things We Keep was such a sad but lovely book. I have the author’s previous novel, The Secrets of Midwives, on my TBR, so that’s one that I’ll need to make a priority in the new year.

8) Amy Schumer: Does Amy Schumer count? I’ve enjoyed her comedy for years, and had a blast with her book, The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo.

9) Sylvain Neuvel: I thought Sleeping Giants was so inventive! I can’t wait for the next book.

10) Laura Barnett: The Versions of Us is a great take on the Sliding Doors style of storytelling. What if things went one way instead of the other? This book explores the different possible outcomes of a chance meeting and how people’s lives veer off into unexpected directions. Loved it.
I can’t wait to see who I’ll meet in 2017!

I’d never heard of Amy Stewart until I’d seen the sequel to this novel on some Top 10 Tuesday lists. Needless to say, her books look really entertaining! 🙂
Her non-fiction books look pretty awesome too (Wicked Plants seems like something I’d enjoy). I hope you check out Girl Waits With Gun — it’s terrific!
Good to know, Lisa! The covers look really neat too. 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
Yay, I’ve heard of some of your books! Backman was on my list as well. I keep hearing great things about Dark Matter so I may have to dive in!!!
I definitely want to read Dark Matter – I’ve seen a couple of very positive reviews.
Lynn 😀
I’ve heard great things about Sleeping Giants. I hope I get to it soon.
I absolutely loved Orphan Train, such a beautiful read! I love the theme this week. I am enjoying this a lot.
I’m intrigued by so many of these books! You’ve discovered some good ones this year. 🙂
I’ve avoided books about whaling since I read Moby Dick in college. But Rush On sounds intriguing! I might have to put it on the TBR. Here is a link to my TTT: https://coffeeandcatsblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/06/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-new-to-me-authors/
Ha, I ended up reading Moby Dick this year! I actually read Rush Oh! much earlier in the year, but whaling has been a theme for me, I guess. 🙂
I’ve heard SO MANY great things about A Man Called Ove!
Looking at everyone’s list for this week makes me feel a bit behind on authors–I read a LOT of indie/self pubbed, so I don’t get the chance to keep up with what’s hip usually! I should really try to work on that a little, at some point.
Thanks so much for sharing! Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday if you’re interested in checking it out. No pressure or worries if you’re not, though! Either way, happy book-ing to you in the near future, and have a great rest of your Tuesday!
Thanks for your link! I love TTTs because I discover so many new books… which means my TBR list just grows and grows. A Man Called Ove is really worth checking out. 🙂
I know, TTTs are SO bad for my “want to read” list lol. But then….so is pretty much every other post book bloggers put up? So. XD
I will definitely keep it in mind, then!
I totally agree with you on Sleeping Giants… the sequel is one of my most anticipated for 2017. Looks like there are a few more that belong on my TBR. 🙂
Yes, I’m really looking forward to the sequel — except I’m afraid that I’ll have forgotten all the details of Sleeping Giants by the time #2 comes out. 😦
I always find something for my TBR from your lists Lisa!! Thanks!
Aw, thanks!
You’ve just reminded me that I’ve had Rush Oh! on my shelf for what seems like forever, and I really should read it *facepalm* I’ve seen Dark Matter floating around but honestly thought it had something to do with the tv show that I don’t really dig hahaha oops!
Girl Waits With Gun sounds fun too, I think I’ll definitely have to give that one a look 🙂
Dark Matter was so good! Definitely worth checking out. So is Girl Waits, but very, very different. 🙂
Great list! And Amy Schemer totally counts! I read her book this year as well and loved it! She is so talented and it was great hearing her perspective on a variety of things that wouldn’t fit in her stand up.
I was surprised to find a lot of her book really moving and emotional, even inspiring. I listened to the audiobook — it was great to hear her telling her own story!
Ooooh I love Blake Crouch! I didn’t even know about Dark Matter, but you can bet I will be adding it to my TBR. You need to read his Wayward Pines series. That was mind blowing. During the final book, I actually had to stop reading it for a few minutes because my heart was pounding so hard. It was so good!!
I’m excited to hear that! I picked up the Wayward Pines books right after reading Dark Matter — I’ll have to make them a priority!
