Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Was Reading On This Day Over the Last Ten Years

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Was Reading On This Day Over the Last Ten Years, with the prompt: … the idea is to share what you were reading on August 11th of 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016.

I love this concept! What fun to look back at past years and see what books were in my hands! Based on my Goodreads history, I was able to get a pretty good idea of what books I was reading at this time for each of the last 10 Augusts.

Let’s jump in:

2025

The King’s Messenger by Susanna Kearsley (review)

2024

The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey (review)

2023

Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center (review)

2022

Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan (review)

2021

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary (review)

2020

Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer (review)

2019

Our War by Craig DiLouie (review)

2018

Night and Silence (October Daye, #12) by Seanan McGuire (review)

2017

How to Stop Time by Matt Haig (review)

2016

Before the Fall by Noah Hawley (review)

So many years of reading… so many great memories! I’d completely forgotten about some of these — it’s nice to get a reminder, and to see the variety of genres and topics I’ve read over these last ten summers.

What memorable books have you read over the last decade of Augusts?

  1. Great list (and thank goodness for Goodreads, lol)! I haven’t read any of these but I do have The Road Trip and Thank You for Listening on my TBR. I’ve heard the audio for TYFL is amazing and I can’t wait to give it a go 😍

    • I loved the Expanse series so much! For the book here, I know I really enjoyed it, but then when the sequel came out, I never ended up being in the mood to continue. I probably should try to get to it… but I’d need a major refresher on the 1st book at this point.

  2. Yes, I also enjoyed doing this post and looking back at some of the books I’ve read over the years.

I’ve read a couple off your list, DiLouie and Meyers and would also like to catch up with the October Daye series.

    Lynn 😀

  3. I’ve read a lot of Center’s books, but not this one! I think her older books might be better than her newer ones. I liked Before the Fall a lot. I need to read the new Corey series.

    • I need to keep going with the new Corey series! I gave the 1st book (the one listed here) 5 stars, and then somehow never found myself in the mood to pick up #2. I’m trying to read the few remaining backlist books by Center that I’ve missed — I think I only have a couple left to read.

  4. Loved The Mercy of Gods and Thank You for Listening! I read Midnight Sun and struggled with that one. I think it’s because my reading had changed so much from the time I read the OG series! Before the Fall is one that I read while I was on a plane. haha! This is what happens when you don’t read the blurb beforehand. lol

  5. Oh I wish I’d done this topic. Lots one here I’d love to read, and I really want to try a book by Susanna Kearsley and Craig DiLouie one of these days.
