Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books Set in Snowy Places.
Here are ten from my shelves:

- The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
- The Silent Land by Graham Joyce
- Snowpiercer by Jacques Lob and Jean-Marc Rochette
- The Shining by Stephen King
- Snowblind by Christopher Golden (review)
- A Cold Day for Murder by Dana Stabenow (review)
- Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Jalaluddin and Marissa Stapley (review)
- Love You a Latke by Amanda Elliot (review)
- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden (review)
- Beartown by Fredrik Backman (review)
Note: The Silent Land is an under-the-radar gem! I read it back before I was blogging, so I don’t have a blog-based review to share — but here’s what I posted on Goodreads at the time:
A couple on a romantic ski getaway in the Pyrenees is caught in a sudden, early morning avalanche on the ski slopes. When they finally manage to dig themselves out and find their way back down the mountain, they find their hotel and its village have been evacuated, and they’re completely alone. Or is there something else going on? “The Silent Land” is simply told, but does a masterful job of evoking the glory of a snowy mountain, the joy of being with a soulmate, and the disquiet of realizing that some things defy explanation, no matter how hard you try to understand it all. It’s hard to go any further without divulging spoilers, which I won’t do. Suffice it to say that “The Silent Land” is both beautiful and ominous, gave me the chills, and kept me intrigued enough that I ended up reading in all in one day. Definitely recommended.
Do you have any favorite books with snowy settings?

A great selection. The Snow Child was the first one I thought of. I would add Dr Zhivago as the snow scenes are very real.
Ah, that’s a great choice! Sadly, I only made it through half of Dr Zhivago before putting it aside — probably because I was reading it with my book group at a pace of two chapters per week, and I just couldn’t connect to the story at that rate. I’d like to go back to it at some point.
I was going to add The Bear and the Nightingale but I figured it would be popular. The Silent Land is a new book to me though. Thanks for sharing your list
Thanks for stopping by! Fun topic this week 🙂
So fun to see everyone’s lists today!
I agree! I’m getting lots of inspiration for even more winter reading!
Nice picks. Have a good week. Here is my TTT. https://dmhoisington.wordpress.com/2025/12/09/top-ten-tuesday-13/
Thank you!
Great selection! I’ve read and loved The Shining, The Bear And The Nightingale and Beartown of these.
Three very different books… all great!
Isn’t it good when you find a gem of a book?
Absolutely! I’m always happy to talk about them too 🙂
Three Holidays and a Wedding was such a fun read!

It really was so charming!
Love You A Latke looks adorable! I am currently on my second holiday book and I don’t know who I am. I usually say I am going to do this every Christmas season and never do! haha. I have seen The Snow Child on a lot of lists today! Great list!
Love You a Latke was really fun! I don’t usually read a ton of holiday books… and yet, I keep finding more on my TBR!
haha, same! What is happening?! lol. I am shocked that I’ve already read two and I plan on at least one more.
Fab list! I loved Bear and the Nightingale!
Such a great book (and trilogy!)
I’ve been eyeing up Beartown for the longest time but I don’t know why I keep putting off buying it… A great list also!
Here’s my TTT post – https://justreadjessie.blog/2025/12/09/top-ten-tuesday-books-set-in-snowy-places/
Thanks! I avoided Beartown for quite a while too, assuming that a book about hockey wouldn’t interest me… but it was great!
Can’t believe I forgot about The Shining. I didn’t consider it at all, lol.
I think every nightmare I’ve ever had about being snowed in can be traced back to The Shining!
My favorte snowy book is probably Call of the wild, but snow child and bear and the nightingale made my list too!

Ah, I didn’t think about Call of the Wild — what a great one!
I need to check out Snowblind, that’s a Christopher Golden book I’m not familiar with. I love how varied your list is😁
Thanks! I do need to read more Christopher Golden — I believe I’ve only read one other besides Snowblind.
