Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Top Ten Quick Reads/Books to Read When Time is Short, which the host is defining as books under 150 pages.
For my list, I’m not paying too much attention to page counts; instead, I’m going with the general idea of shorter reads — basically, novellas.
I’ve been reading more novellas over the past few years — here are ten that I’ve loved:
1) Elder Race by Adrian Tchaikovsky (review)
2) The Tusks of Extinction by Ray Nayler (review)
3) Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher (review)
4) Arch-Conspirator by Veronica Roth (review)
5) Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower by Tamsyn Muir (review)
6) To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers (review)
7) A Psalm for the Wild-Built and A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers (yes, more Becky Chambers — her books are THAT good)

8) A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow (review)
9) Gwendy’s Button Box by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar (and I do recommend the entire Gwendy trilogy) (review)
10) Rizzio by Denise Mina (review)
Do you have any favorite novellas?

I love the Monk & Robot series.
My copy of The Tusks of Extinction just arrived from the library. Can’t wait to read it.

I hope you enjoy Tusks! I’ve loved everything by Becky Chambers so far — can’t wait to see what she does next.
I really should read Thornhedge sometime!

It’s amazing! If you’ve read anything else by the author and enjoyed it, then it’s a must. 🙂
I love this list! You included so many of my favourites! I have been seeing Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower on a lot of lists and that is something I need to read!
I loved Princess Floralinda! I’ve been meaning to reread it.
Thornhedge! I picked that too!
Such a great one!
I’ve seen a few of these on other lists and the covers alone make me want to pick them up.
It was a particularly fun topic to put together this week!
Every one of these is new to me!
How funny! I’m sure once I start making the rounds to check out other lists, I’m going to discover a whole bunch more that are new to me.
I’ve read a bunch of these! Elder Race is a favorite😁
I loved Elder Race! I’ve read four novellas by Adrian Tchaikovksy, all excellent… I just need to bite the bullet and read his novels!
Thanks for sharing these quick reads, Lisa! I still haven’t tried a Stephen King book. Maybe a short one is the way to go 🙂
He has a lot of great novellas, so there are plenty to choose from !
I need to try one!
Thornhedge and Becky Chambers were excellent.
Loved them both!
Aah, excellent choices, and only a couple that I haven’t read. Clearly our tastes align enough I should post those on my list!
It’s always a treat to find people who share our book tastes!
Love the variety! I really want to read the Kingfisher one. And those sci fi novellas look like a lot of fun, too. 😀
Kingfisher is fab! And a really fast one — you can definitely read it all in one sitting.
Interesting list. I have not read any of these, and have only read something from Veronica Roth (Divergent series).
I never did end up reading the Divergent series, but I did think this novella was terrific.
Great list! I haven’t read Veronica Roth in so long!! I still need to read Prayer for the Crown so I’m glad to see it on this list!
So far, I’ve loved every single thing by Becky Chambers!
That’s great to know because I’ve got a good backlist to get to! 🙂
