Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read. I have plenty of these! (Don’t we all?)
To keep it simple, I went back through my preorder spreadsheet (yes, I keep track of my book orders via an Excel spreadsheet!), and discovered plenty of books that I ordered well in advance of the release date… and still haven’t gotten around to reading. Sigh…
I only went back through my last 4 – 5 years of book buying — I’m sure I have plenty of older books that would fit this list too!
My top 10 books (and the year each was purchased) are:

- Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (2018)
- Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness (2018)
- Someday by David Levithan (2018
- Death of an Eye by Dana Stabenow (2018)
- The City in the Middle of the Night by Charlie Jane Anders (2019)
- The Five by Hallie Rubenhold (2020)
- When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey (2020)
- Arctic Fury by Greer Macallister (2020)
- Ambush or Adore by Gail Carriger (2021)
- The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi (2022)
What books made your list this week? Are there any on my list that you think I should read ASAP?
Share your links, and I’ll come check out your top 10!
The Five was really interesting. I especially appreciated the way it humanized Jack the Ripper’s victims instead of sensationalized their deaths. The author did a really nice job of showing who they were in life. May you enjoy it when you read it.

I’ve heard such good things about The Five! I really have no excuse for not reading it yet, except for my ongoing reluctance to pick up a non-fiction book when I have so much fiction calling my name.
Oooh I’d like to read The Five! I’m afraid I have a lot of books in this category – too afraid to count!
It’s so hard to keep up!
It is! I get sidetracked when I see books like this – I tend to drop everything and read them – it’s fun though!
The Five looks really good. I also still have The Arctic Fury to read. Going through your backlog of books did it convince you to bring any of the titles to the front of your reading list?
Oh yes, for sure! It’s a good reminder of how excited I was to read these books in the first place.
Enjoy those reads. If you’re anything like me you have more to read than possible but it’s impossible to not keep adding more goodies to the pile.
Great list! I was horrified at the age of some of mine!!!
Ha, well, I know I have plenty of older ones too!
I bought Spinning Silver, but heard it wasn’t as good as Uprooted, so I kind of lost interest. I hope it ends up being a good read for you though, along with the rest of these.
I really loved Uprooted, so I do still have high hopes for Spinning Silver.
If I actually owned Spinning Silver, it would’ve made my list too. I hope you enjoy each of these when you read them.
I am still really interested in reading Spinning Silver! It’s kind of shocking to realize how long I’ve had my copy!
These all look like great reads; I can see why you wanted to buy them. I also understand why you haven’t managed to read them yet…I own many books I haven’t read yet, too. 😀
Oh yes, it’s an ongoing challenge! No matter how much I swear that I’ll cut back on my book buying until I catch up on the books I already own, it just never happens. 🙂
Spinning Silver is on my list, and Time’s Convert should have been! I also want to read The Kaiju Preservation Society at some point, but I don’t own it, so it didn’t qualify for my list. Good luck — I hope you can get to at least some of these soon!
Thanks so much! The only reason I have Kaiju here, when it just came out a couple of months ago, is how far in advance I preordered it — I’m still very excited to read it, and just need time to do it!
I have such a long list! I have read both When We Were Magic and Kaiju and both were a lot of fun😁
I’m excited for both! I was really determined to read more of the books I already own this year, but somehow have gotten buried under ARCs yet again…
Spinning Silver was very good; a different tone than Uprooted, but very good. Time’s Convert just didn’t hit the level of the All Souls Trilogy. My list of “still haven’t read” passed absurdity long ago!
Oh, it’s crazy to think about all the “still haven’t read” books! I’m still looking forward to reading Spinning Silver. Maybe this will finally be the year!
I didn’t actually like Spinning Silver (though Uprooted is one of my favorite books) 😂 so I won’t blame you if that ones sits on your shelf for another 4 years (I also can’t believe its already been 4 years since it came out!)
I couldn’t believe it had been 4 years already either! I have it positioned on a shelf above my desk so I see it literally every day… one of these days, I’ll finally open it up and read it!
The Arctic Fury is FANTASTIC!
It sounds amazing! I have no excuse for not reading it other than having too many other books competing for my attention.
Yes, well… I hear you!
Compared to the rest of the series Time’s Convert was just okay. Still enjoyable, but I think I just missed Diana and Matthew being center stage! I hope you end up enjoying it, though!!
Thanks! It’s been a long time since I’ve read the other books — my vague plan is to watch season 3 of the Discovery of Witches series and then follow up by reading Time’s Convert.
Hey, that should work, honestly! I wasn’t a huge fan of Goode as Matthew — I always end up picturing Michael Fassbender as him when I read!
I have Spinning Silver on my shelf, too!
I still do want to read it! I just never seem to make it a top priority.
You have a pre-order spreadsheet? That is next level impressive organisation!

Haha, then I guess you’d be even more impressed by my ARC tracking worksheet!
I probably would be!
I could make a very long list of books to fit this particular theme. I need more time.
Lynn 😀
Haha, don’t we all? If only little things like work and sleep didn’t get in my way, I could read ALL the books!
