Binge ideas needed – ready, set, go!

Binge-watching during the pandemic… well, it passes the time! I’ve actually watched some great TV over the last several months, and now I need some fresh ideas.

So hey, why not turn to the hive-mind for suggestions? I’ll tell you what I’ve loved, and hopefully, you’ll tell me what to watch next. Deal?

So far, my best binges have been:

  • Harry Potter movies
  • Fast & the Furious movies (yes, I have a teen-aged son…)
  • Jane the Virgin
  • Gilmore Girls
  • Schitts Creek
  • Derry Girls
  • Harlots
  • Veronica Mars
  • The Witcher
  • Never Have I Ever
  • Dead To Me
  • Hollywood
  • Sex Education

I don’t like to watch:

  • Police procedurals
  • Hospital procedurals
  • Crime, violence, gangs, drug cartels (so despite my son’s best efforts, I’m not going to watch Narcos or Queen of the South)

Series I’ve started but haven’t finished:

  • Anne with an E: I enjoyed the few episodes I watched (only 3 or 4), but just haven’t been in the mood to continue
  • The Vampire Diaries: I watched devotedly through season 6, then walked away. Should I go back?
  • The Umbrella Academy: I watched three episodes of season 1, but I don’t really see myself continuing.
  • The Outsider: I loved the book, and I thought the few episodes I watched were really good — but I just don’t think I’ve been in the right mindset for something this dark.

I’ve been thinking about watching Cursed, and I’ve been told I should watch Succession. Meanwhile, I’m watching season 1 of Supernatural in bits and pieces, but don’t feel hooked yet.

So….

I’m open to suggestions! What have been your favorites binges during your months at home? What should I bump to the top of my to-watch list?

All ideas are welcome — ready, set, go!

  1. I was going to say Derry Girls but seeing you already watched it… Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is one of the weirdest shows I’ve seen and also one of my favorites. I’m mostly a comedy person so One Day at a Time, B99 (if you can ignore the police propaganda, which I understand if people can’t), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and The Good Place are also on my top 10. Hmm… I’ve been watching Superstore and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel too.

And now for something that aren’t comedies: I rewatch Doctor Who at least once a year because at that point is part of my personality. I also like Orphan Black a lot.

Obviously I can’t know if you have seen any of the ones I said previously, but I think that’s it. Hope you found at least a new show to watch from my recs ♥

    • Ah, One Day at a Time sounds like a great choice for me! I’ve heard great things about Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I’ve already seen all of The Good Place (loved it!), and watched season 1 of Mrs. Maisel but somehow haven’t felt the urge to continue.

I haven’t watched any of the seasons of the newest Doctor in Doctor Who, so maybe I should do that too. Thanks so much for the great suggestions!

  2. Let’s see….I’ve been in serious binge so I am perhaps not the best judge but Lucifer and Working Moms were great. Medici the Magnificent and Last Kingdom were fantastic. Hmm…Episodes, Space Force were good too,

    • I’ve always meant to watch Avatar. My son watched it years ago, and I know I wandered in and out during various episodes — but I guess it would have more of an impact if I actually watched the whole thing!

      • Yes!! 😀 It sure would. It’s worth bingeing on and the Korra show (same universe, different avatar) is good too. If you end up liking Avatar: the Last Airbender, then I also recommend Fullmetal Alchemist. I came across it when searching for shows similar to Avatar, and it is. Actually, I’ll binge on it starting tmrw.
