My Monday tradition, including a look back and a look ahead — what I read last week, what new books came my way, and what books are keeping me busy right now. Plus a smattering of other stuff too.
Life.
I’m still in my big, bulky splint — soon to be replaced by a hard cast for another month. I’m adapting, but my typing is still slow, awkward, and full of annoying typos.
**Random question: Has anyone tried a split keyboard? I’m wondering if this might be a possible improvement for me.
Please forgive me for not commenting on more of your blog posts! I’m “liking” as much as I can, but I find actually typing responses is really tiring.
And I realize that overall I’m blessed with good health and feel a bit guilty complaining about a temporary situation… I’m trying my best to grin and bear it without getting too whiny!
What did I read during the last week?
New reviews — I wrote a two-in-one review for these two incredible, powerful books:
- Our War by Craig DiLouie
- Wanderers by Chuck Wendig
I also read the graphic novel version of The Handmaid’s Tale, which was stunning and beautiful. There’s no substitute for reading Margaret Atwood’s original novel, but this is a worthy, well-done companion. The artwork is a visual treat — as with the TV series, the use of color is powerful and evocative. Highly recommended.
Pop Culture
Anyone else watching Four Weddings and a Funeral on Hulu? I binged seven episodes over the weekend — such fun!
Fresh Catch:
I’ve always loved this Gaiman fairy tale — I’m so excited for the illustrated edition!
What will I be reading during the coming week?
Currently in my hands:
The Warehouse by Rob Hart: A fun look at the possible future of an Amazon-ified America. Interesting so far!
Now playing via audiobook:
How much do I love October Daye? There just aren’t enough words. Doing an audio re-read in preparation for the next new book!
Ongoing reads:
Two ongoing book group read right now:
- The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens
- Virgins by Diana Gabaldon
So many books, so little time…
How did I miss news of a Four Weddings series? Hope the typing gets easier soon!
Four Weddings is quite fun — I hope you check it out. Thanks for the good wishes!
Enjoy your reading!

Four Weddings and a Funeral is a series??? Oh wow, I need to get Hulu now! Good luck with your hand, and enjoy the typing break😁
Ooh, there’s a lot of good stuff on Hulu right now – do it! Four Weddings is “inspired by” the movie, not a retelling, which some reviewers are complaining about. I think it’s pretty charming and lots of fun.
Thank you!
Looking forward to your review of The Warehouse!
Coming soon! 🙂
Oh no! I didn’t know you were injured. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Ooh, Snow, Glass, Apples looks very tempting.
Thanks so much!
I hate it when people feel bad about complaining because they know they generally have it good! It still sucks and you should still be allowed to complain! I hope you get better soon! I couldn’t type for almost a week earlier this month and it about killed me!
Aw, I appreciate your support!
I didn’t know The Handmaid’s Tale had a graphic version. Shall look out for it. You take care of your hand and spend time reading more.
Thanks so much!
Hey Lisa! I’ve never used a split keyboard, maybe that would work for you – I hope you are doing better – take care!
Thank you! I’m seeing my doctor later today — will see what kind of ergonomic solutions he recommends. First day back at work was tiring!
I bet – any procedure takes a lot more out of you than you realize.
Voice to type might work for you, there are several apps you could try.
Have a great reading week
I might give it a try! I think I can at least get it set up at work and see if it’s helpful. Thanks!
I didn’t realise you were in a splint. I’ve been too busy to read posts and a, trying to catch up. Get better soon. It’s life’s little annoyances that can really add up. 🐧🤠 Relax with a coffee on me. ☕☕
Thanks for the good wishes and virtual coffee! 🙂
Amazon-ified America! Isn’t it already here? Thanks for this TBR list and I’m only sorry I didn’t see it sooner. I recently read a phenomenal book called “Two Skies Before Night” by author Robert Gryn (http://www.robertgrynbooks.com/ ). It is so hard to categorize this book because it has so much going on for it. It’s like dystopian science fiction meets detective fiction meets fantasy. The double murder mystery takes place in a city where there is an “Above” and “Below” for the alien races that live there with a very strict class system. Detective Lang is in charge of figuring out the murder of an alien couple, the man from the above (the elite class) and the woman from the below. I read this book because it won the 2019 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and I love checking out indie authors! It is an addictive read for sure and I think you would enjoy it!
Ooh, sounds really interesting! I’ll have to check it out!
