Happy New Year! Welcome to 2019!
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Best Books I Read In 2018.
According to Goodreads, I gave a 5-star rating to 73 books in 2018, and a 4-star rating to 83. That makes 156 books that I pretty much loved. Yowza, what a year! I don’t think I can limit myself to just 10 books here… so I’ll highlight a few, include a few others by category, and see how it all works out…
Here are (just a few of) my favorites from 2018:
1) Powerful family drama set in Alaska: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (review)
2) Two views of an an ancient classic: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker (review)
3) Terrific historical fiction that I read because of my book group: The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See (review) and The Chilbury Lady’s Choir by Jennifer Ryan (review)
4) A surprising moving short novel by Stephen King: Elevation (review)
5) Amazing woman-power science fiction: The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal (review)
6) Action/adventure with THE BEST heroic duo: Hope Never Dies by Andrew Shaffer (review)
7) New books in beloved series:
8) Deliciously fun contemporary romance:
9) Intriguing story collections:
10) A couple of classics that I finally read!

Wishing one and all a terrific new year filled with wonderful books!
Great list! You’ve reminded me that I really need to read The Calculating Stars and Only Human.
And I really need to read the follow up to The Calculating Stars!
Absolutely love your list, Lisa! So many I’d have on mine, too. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!
I like how you categorized your list. Am hoping to read The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane this year.
I hope you do! It’s really a lovely book. Happy New Year!
Thanks! Happy New Year!! 🙂
Wow. That’s a cracking year for reading! Well done!
Thanks so much! It’s really been a fun reading year. 🙂
I need to start the Saga series soon. I hope you enjoy your 2019. Happy New Year!
Now is a great time to start Saga! The authors have announced that they’re taking a break for a year, so it’s a perfect opportunity to get caught up. 🙂 Happy New Year!
Maybe I will marathon the series this year. Thanks for the heads up!
Awesome list! We read really different things, but The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir and Hope Never Dies look perfect for me. Happy new year. Hope you have a ton of more great books in your future.

Thank you, and happy new year to you too!
Hey Lisa! We share two favorites from 2018 – The Great Alone and Hope Never DIes!
I loved them both so much! The Great Alone was really an amazing read (and made me want to go spend time in Alaska!)
Great Alone was such a great book! I also loved reading it. I haven’t read The Song of Achilles but Circe was amongst top 10 books of 2018 for me so I’m definitely keen to check it out soon.
So many great books for my future reading, thanks! 😊
I’m really looking forward to reading Circe! I picked up a copy already, but my book group decided to read it later in 2019, so I’m going to hold off until then. The Song of Achilles was just beautiful — I listened to the audiobook, and loved it.
Love your list. It makes me hungry for more books this year 🙂

Thanks so much, and Happy New Year! I always find more and more books to add to my reading list by looking at everyone else’s top 10! 🙂
Great list, Lisa, it looks like you had an amazing reading year! I need to get to Circe and The Silence of the Girls soon, and I’d like to read The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, too. I can’t wait to read more Carriger this year!
I love Gail Carriger! Her Facebook group is doing a readalong of ALL of her books this year — and while I don’t think I have the time (or stamina) to do it, I’m a little tempted. It sounds like fun!
