Top Ten Tuesday: Top ten series I NEED to READ

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is the Top Ten Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t. I’m pretty series-averse these days, trying not to start new series unless all volumes are already published and available. I just don’t have the patience (or attention span) to get involved in any more ongoing series with no end in sight!

Here are some series that I’ve yet to start (but want to), and some that I’ve started but not finished.

On the new to me side:

1) Old Man’s War by John Scalzi

2) Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery

3) Temeraire by Naomi Novik

4) The Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss

5) Rosemary & Rue by Seanan McGuire

6) And speaking of Seanan McGuire, I still need to read the Newsflesh series by Mira Grant

And for series that I’ve started and need to get back to:

7) The Dark Tower by Stephen King – I’ve read 3 books so far.

8) Locke & Key by Joe Hill – I’ve read all but the last volume! How crazy is that?

9) The Expanse by James S. A. Corey – I’ve barely made a dent, but I love what I’ve read (2 books) so far.

10) Poldark by Winston Graham – I think I’ve read 5 out of 12.

What book series are you dying to read? Share your link, please, and I’ll come check out your top 10!

  1. I really need to get into The Kingkiller Chronicles as well! I have the first book sitting on my shelf just waiting for me to pick it up!

    • Ha, me too — books 1 & 2! I keep saying that I refuse to start until Patrick Rothfuss announces the publication date for #3. I don’t need yet another series to keep me hanging. 🙂

  2. I’m slowly starting to collect all the Dark Tower books before I read them (I have 3 more to purchase) and everyone keeps telling me the series is amazing, so I’m very excited to start it!
I’ve always wanted to read Ann of Green Gables! Great list! 🙂

    • That’s funny — I ended up picking up all of the Dark Tower books at library book sales over the past few years, so now I have them all… just need to read them!

      • Nice! I’ve been picking up the new (or I guess newer) mass paperback editions and they’ve been pretty cheap 10 bucks each, I just space it out by buying two every once in a while. I know that by the end of the year I’ll have them all. Let’s hope that the series is as good as everyone keeps saying!

  3. I haven’t read any of those … but the Kingkiller Chronicles!!!! Which is amazing, by the way. It took me awhile to finally pick it up because it is SO CHUNKY. Like the largest book I’ve ever read. Including Under the Dome by Stephen King. But it’s SO GOOD. I’d definitely highly recommend it!! It’s so unique but absolutely amazing.

    • I’m really looking forward to it, and have been told by SO many people that it’s a must! I just want to wait until I know book #3 is on the way before I get started.

      • Well. That may be a few years :/ From what I can tell, there’s about 7 years between the books? I’m constantly stalking his twitter, hopeful for updates. Good luck!

    • I know! But I’ve always intended to start again from the beginning before reading the last volume, and I’ve never been in the mood. So silly, really. Maybe I’ll finally commit to doing it this summer!

  4. Great list, Lisa! You’re not alone, I’m a really bad series reader, too. For example, I highly recommend that you read the Newsflesh series – Feed is one of my favourite books – but even though I loved the first and second books, even I haven’t finished the third book yet because I’m useless. I really need to read Anne of Green Gables, too – thanks for the reminder! =)

    • Anne of Green Gables has been high on my to-read list for years… and it still hasn’t happened. I do want to read the Newsflesh books, but I’m in the middle of binge-watching The Walking Dead (almost done with season 4!) and I think if I watch zombies and read zombies at the same time, my life will get really weird. 🙂

  5. I just picked up a copy of Old Man’s War and I’m really looking forward to starting it! Might end up being my first Scalzi. I finally started Rosemary & Rue and really enjoying the first 2 installments but need to get back to it! And oh man. I can’t recommend the Newsflesh series enough. 🙂 Oooh I plan on finally starting Dark Tower this year… just as soon as I’m done moving and I can dig it out of a box. haha

  6. The Dark Tower is incredible, and it’s taken me down a long road of apocalyptic stories. The Exanse and Dan Simmons’ Hyperion books are on my list next, with American Gods to help make more sense of the awesome yet character-stuffed first season.
