Grand Beginnings: The Man in the High Castle

Amazon has unveiled its newest original series, and it’s something you really need to see!

The Man in the High Castle debuted this past week, and all 10 episodes are now available for streaming (free for Amazon Prime subscribers). I’ve watched two episodes so far, and I’m hooked.

Adapated from a 1960s book by sci-fi master Philip K. Dick, The Man in the High Castle has as its premise the concept that the United States lost World War II. As the show opens, it’s 1962, and the US is divided into three parts: The eastern half of the country is under the rule of the Nazi Reich, the west coast is controlled by Japan, and a neutral zone runs between the two along the Rockies.

Two episodes in, I’m finding the series disturbing, detailed, and utterly absorbing. I won’t go too far into the plot at this point, since I have so much yet to see and have no idea where this is all going.

What I do want to share is the opening title sequence, which is just perfectly chilling. Check it out:

Are you watching The Man in the High Castle? Do you intend to?

If you’ve given it a try already, please let me know what you think!

  1. That sounds so good! THAT SONG! I want to go watch Sound of Music right now! I’m sure my dad will love this show. Thanks for posting about it.

Seeing this post reminded me I still need to check out that ballet show you were taking about as well!

  2. I’ve been hearing a lot about this television show lately, glad to hear that you find it absorbing (despite of its creepiness and all–everyone’s mentioned how fascinating & disturbing it is). I’ll have to check it out at some point *is forever behind with television shows* Thanks for posting the opening sequence!

    • Oh, it’s so good so far! If I can stay awake, I’m going to try to get through at least another episode tonight. I’d like to read the book too, but I hear it’s pretty different, so I may wait until the show is over.

  3. Mr Books alerted me to this last weekend – he is very keen. I’ve ordered the book for starters…and once we get through our fourth review of the entire West Wing series….we can start on this one ๐Ÿ™‚

    great trailer

    • I hope you enjoy it! I’d love to hear your reaction to the book. I think I”d like to read it, but at this point, I’m going to get through the entire TV series first.
