Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week, leading up to Halloween, I’m focusing on ten books about witches… some cute, some not so much, some the real deal, and some the wrongly accused. What do they have in common? They’re all about witches… and they’re all pretty awesome.
Witches for kids:
1) Old Black Witch by Wende and Harry Devlin
2) The Witches by Roald Dahl
3) The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
4) The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling (Hi, Hermione!!)
Falsely accused witches:
5) The Crucible by Arthur Miller
6) Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: Yes, there’s a witch trial! And no, Claire may be a time traveler with special healing powers, but a witch, she ain’t.
Talented witches:
7) A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
8) The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe
Fairy tale witches:
9) Wicked by Gregory Maguire
10) Fables, volume 10: The Witches by Bill Willingham
And an extra one, just for fun..
Whether on TV or in comic book form, there’s no denying that Willow is one awesome witch!

You are indeed knowledgeable with witches, eh? 🙂
You may want to read my list, though I am not sure they are really so scary! 🙂 http://wp.me/p4ZhSl-jv
LOL, I don’t know — maybe not, if you don’t count kids’ books!
Yay! 😀
I really like your list! Especially because you added Willow to it. Can’t forget about her! I’ve been wanting to read A Discovery of Witches for a long time, but never gotten around to it… It’s bumped up the priority list now though!
A Discovery of Witches is so good! I like that it’s brainy and not just about sexy vampires. (Okay, it’s a little bit about sexy vampires, but there’s a much bigger story. 🙂 )
That sounds like something I’d enjoy too, so I’m definitely checking it out 😀
Wow, that’s quite an impressive list! I love Roald Dahl, and Harry Potter is one of my favourite books of all time. The Outlander witch trial was so stressful!
Here’s my TTT : https://victoriajaynesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/top-ten-tuesday-28-halloween/
Thanks! I know what you mean about the witch trial being stressful — it’s very hard to take!
I love The Witches by Roald Dahl. I love him! 🙂 Great picks!
I re-read that one recently — I’d forgotten how awful and creepy the witches really are!
Great list! I love The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, and of course I love Harry Potter and Roald Dahl, too. I recommend checking out Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia; it’s set in Mexico City in the ’80s and a teenage girl discovers she can cast spells through music, it’s such a good book. 😀
Oh, cool, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
I love the Fables series, but I haven’t read that one before. Great list, I always love a good witch story 🙂
Fables was so amazing (sniff… sad that it’s over).
Yessss I love witches! I did a whole post last week about witchy books and tv shows, I included A Discovery of Witches and The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. Actually I’m expecting book mail today, two non fictions, one is The Penguin Book of Witches, by Katherine Howe.
Oh, your new witch book sounds great! I still have to read Conversion by Katherine Howe, and I’d like to read the new non-fiction book about Salem too.
Cool list. Bellatrix LeStrange might not be a witch for kids.
My Halloween TTT: https://samwhitehousewriter.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/top-ten-tuesday-halloween-top-ten-fictional-fighters-of-evil/
Bellatrix is really scary, very true.
What a wonderful list. I have Outlander out from the library now so hopefully I will get to it soon.
Thanks for sharing!
Amanda
Ooh, yes, read Outlander!!! (I’m a little obsessed.)
Impressive list. i haven’t read many of these but I would definitely like to pick up Wicked. It sounds really good and I have seen the play/musical. I know it’s different but it would still be fun to read it. 🙂
I think I read the book of Wicked after seeing it on Broadway, and liked the book very much, despite how different the tone and the plot are.
Great list! I’d love to read Outlander. Roald Dahl’s The Witches used to terrify me when I was younger!!! My TTT
The Witches is really scary. Parts of Matilda also scared me so much. Roald Dahl can be terrifying!
Great witch list! 🙂 I wish I’d come up with a bit more creative list, like you did!
LOL. I was tempted to just do the same 10 scary books as I did last year, but decided not to be quite that lazy in the end. 🙂
Awesome list! I also used witches as my theme for this week and we share a couple of books! My TTT
Awesome! Heading off to check out your post… now!
I didn’t know Willow had her own comic?!
It’s a spin-off/companion to the Buffy season 9 series. I haven’t read it yet, but I think (?) it takes place between season 9 and 10.
great picks (and categories!) My TTT
Thanks!
The WItch of Blackbird Pond is one of my favorites!!!
I know I loved it way back when, but to be honest, I barely remember any of the details at this point. I think I’d due for a re-read!
The Crucible was really good and I love The Outlander Series!!!
Here’s a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/10/top-ten-tuesday-10-literary-halloween.html
🙂 I pretty much take any excuse to mention Outlander in a blog post.
You have some good title on here, including The Crucible and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Dahl’s The Witches I think was good, but It’s been awhile since I’ve read it.
I have been wanting to read The Witch of Blackbird Pond for ages. I somehow missed it when I was a kid but better late than never! 🙂 The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane sounds so good. And Outlander. ❤
I’m listening to the audiobook of TWoBP right now, and it’s great! I read it as a kid, but had forgotten most of the detail. Deliverance Dane is a great one too. 🙂
