Today, I’m celebrating the release of The Mapmaker’s Children, a new historical novel by Sarah McCoy, and I’m delighted to be participating in the blog tour sponsored by TLC!
Synopsis:
When Sarah Brown, daughter of abolitionist John Brown, realizes that her artistic talents may be able to help save the lives of slaves fleeing north, she becomes one of the Underground Railroad’s leading mapmakers, taking her cues from the slave code quilts and hiding her maps within her paintings. She boldly embraces this calling after being told the shocking news that she can’t bear children, but as the country steers toward bloody civil war, Sarah faces difficult sacrifices that could put all she loves in peril.
Eden, a modern woman desperate to conceive a child with her husband, moves to an old house in the suburbs and discovers a porcelain head hidden in the root cellar—the remains of an Underground Railroad doll with an extraordinary past of secret messages, danger and deliverance.
Ingeniously plotted to a riveting end, Sarah and Eden’s woven lives connect the past to the present, forcing each of them to define courage, family, love, and legacy in a new way.

This looks like a good one. This book includes my favorite time in history to read about. I loved The Invention of Wings, and I devoured the whole John Jakes series way back when I was in high school.
Oh, I read a bunch of John Jakes way back when too! I finally picked up a copy of The Invention of Wings, and I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this captivating giveaway. My favorite time period which I enjoy reading about in historical fiction is World War Two since it was so heartwrenching for so long, for so many. My favorite historical novel is A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell. A larger than life historical figure who I would love to see featured in fiction is Sir Winston Churchill. I am an e-mail subscriber.
Thanks for subscribing! I love everything by Mary Doria Russell! Have you read any of her other books?
I enjoy reading Regency novels the most which I think is mid to late 1800s? I am currently following a series called the Marriage Game by Ella Quin that I find very delightful. I am excited for this book as well! Thanks for sharing.
Ooh, I’ll have to check out The Marriage Game! Thanks!
Thanks for featuring this book for the tour!
My pleasure! Thank you for including me!
This sounds like a book that I would really enjoy. I love historical novels anyway, but the Civil War Era especially appeals to me.
