It’s that day of the week again…

I enjoy two different Tuesday memes, and this week, their topics align — so I’m linking up with both!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes. There’s a prompt to include a link to our book wishlists, so people can grant wishes if they choose to — but honestly, I’m not particularly comfortable with that, so I’ll just list a bunch of books that I hope the Book Fairy brings!

*Also… as I’ve mentioned in past years, Santa doesn’t visit my house… but I do enjoy looking at new books by the light of my menorah!*

This week’s topic is Top 5 books I want for Jolabokaflod, and the prompt is: The year we were travelling Europe for Christmas is the year I discovered Jolabokaflod — the Icelandic tradition of giving books as gifts on Christmas Eve. Which is honestly like the greatest tradition I’ve ever seen. So, which books would you like to receive if you celebrated Jolabokaflod?

Honestly, I love this question, and I think celebrating Jolabokaflod is going to have to become my family’s next/newest holiday tradition!

Getting down to business…

Here are my top bookish wishes this holiday season!

A Darkness Absolute by Kelley Armstrong: This is the 2nd Rockton book, and I’d be happy to own any and all volumes in the series!
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon: An upcoming book group read.
I’ll Be Waiting by Kelley Armstrong: I’ve already read this book as an ARC, but would love to have a hardcover edition for my shelves. A signed copy would be even better!
The Mercy of Gods by James S. A. Corey: Another that I’ve read in e-book format — but a hardcover would go so well with my Expanse series books.
The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore by Evan Friss: I don’t tend to buy myself non-fiction books, but I think this one would be a great gift to receive.
Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell: This book has gotten so much buzz this year, and after reading a different book by this author, I’m eager to check it out.
You Like It Darker by Stephen King: I usually try to keep up with Stephen King’s new releases, except when they’re story collections. Still, I wouldn’t say no if this showed up at my house!
The Morning Gift by Eva Ibbotson: There are actually a bunch of books by this author that I’d like to read.
The Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis: I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this book since I first heard of it, but I’ve been waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for the Kindle or hardcover price to drop.
The Bewitching Hour by Ashley Poston: It’s a Buffy prequel! About Tara! I don’t think I’d buy it, but I’d be happy if it fell into my lap (and if not, there’s always the library).

I’m not comfortable linking to a wishlist — I’m not asking anyone to send me anything! At most, if someone owns a copy of a book on my list and wants to do a book swap, I’m open to it — but actually buying me something? No, but thanks anyway!

My holidays are already over — and while my family was very good to me, many of my bookish wishes came true because I treated myself to great sale prices! Still, I do have remaining books I’d love copies of at some point.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish wishes to wrap up 2021

This week’s topic is about Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes, with an option for people to share their wish lists and then grant one another’s wishes. I’m not sharing an actual clickable wishlist, and I’ve already either received or treated myself to a lot of books this holiday season… but here are a few bookish items that I dream of, even though they’re mostly big splurges or hard-to-find items or just silly treats that I wouldn’t ever expect to spend money on.

One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I borrowed a copy from the library and loved it. I’d really like my own hard copy, but the physical book was released as a limited edition hardcover and the few sellers I’ve seen listing it have it marked very high. This is a someday, maybe wishlist item for me!

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

I would love a hardcover edition of The Goblin Emperor, but these are very hard to come by, as far as I can see. I’m hoping there will be a reissue at some point, with a cover to match The Witness For the Dead (and the upcoming new release The Grief of Stones).

Pride & Puzzlement jigsaw puzzle

The price isn’t bad — but I just have so many puzzles in my house already that I can’t justify buying another right now!

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki

This isn’t hard to find or outrageously priced… it’s just that I really don’t need to buy myself more physical books right now. I’ve been wanting to read this, but it’s not a big enough priority for me to rush out and grab a copy.

Elizabeth Bennet Pop Funko

How did I not I not know this existed? This is Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice & Zombies (which I’m not ashamed to admit that I love!). There are other characters too, including Jane Bennet and Lady Catherine. Awesome!

Word Cloud Classics

I love these fresh-looking editions of classics! I have a couple, but would never say no to more.

Book Plates

I think it would be fun to have some pretty or whimsical book plates to put inside my books — for those rare occasions when I actually agree to lend a book.

Wooden Book Stand

Or really, any pretty or unusual or decorative book stand. Do I need this? No. But there are occasions (like when I’m eating a big sandwich but don’t want to stop reading) when I could see this being really handy!

Bookish socks (or any other bookish apparel)

I love Out of Print, and have so many of their t-shirts… but not nearly enough socks, hats, totebags, or accessories. There’s always room for more, in my humble opinion.

Saga Deluxe Editions

I love the Saga series, and have the trade paperback editions of all published volumes… but for years, I’ve had my eye on these hardcover deluxe editions too.

OK, so most of these aren’t at all practical, but isn’t that the point of wishes?

Okay, so I’m NOT actually sharing links to a wishlist or at all asking anyone to grant my wishes! But still, it’s always fun (and a little crazy) to take stock of how many more books I’d like to get sooner or later… despite the huge number of unread books sitting on my shelves.

Here are my top 10 wishes:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Encyclopedia: The Ultimate Guide to the Buffyverse by Nancy Holder: This one has been on my wish list for years! I’d love to have a copy… but enough to actually spend money on it.
Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel: I’ve actually read this one already — it’s a fabulous mash-up of Frankenstein and Pride and Prejudice, and I really need a copy of my own.
Victories Great Than Death by Charlie Jane Anders: I have copies of her other books, and need this one too!
Seed to Harvest by Octavia Butler: This is an all-in-one edition of the Patternist series. I do have these books on my Kindle already, but I’d love a hard copy too.
The Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker: Since I have a copy of The Golem and the Jinni, I’d like the sequel to go with it.
The Return of the Sorceress by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: The hardcover edition is from Subterranean Press, and their books are always so pretty (but expensive).
One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky: No particular reason — it just sounds like fun!
Jane in Love by Rachel Givney: It’s Jane Austen plus time travel! How does that not sound cool?
Network Effect by Martha Wells: I can’t believe I stalled out on the Murderbot books before getting to this one! There’s no good reason — I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’d love to own copies of the entire series.
Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley: The book sounds so good, and the cover is too pretty not to have my own copy.
