Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Book Titles that Would Make Great Song Titles. As I was perusing my bookshelves for inspiration, I realized that I need look no further than one particular author…
It’s not exactly a secret that Seanan McGuire is one of my favorite authors. Besides the fact that her books are excellent, they also tend to have terrific titles. Here are ten (from books written as both Seanan McGuire and Mira Grant) that I can easily imagine as song titles too.
- Rolling in the Deep (what? there’s already a song with this title??? but is it about killer mermaids?)
- Into the Drowning Deep
- When Will You Rise?
- Down Among the Sticks and Bones
- Come Tumbling Down (no, not the John Cougar Mellancamp song — that one is actually “Crumblin’ Down”)
- Kingdom of Needle and Bone
- A Red-Rose Chain
- Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day
- Midnight Blue-Light Special
- Sparrow Hill Road
What do you think of my choices? And what book titles can you imagine as great song titles?

Great list! Sparrow Hill Road sounds like it’d be such a fun indie song.
Definitely! And what’s cool is that Seanan McGuire has written some songs (country-flavored, I think) to go with the book.
I love all of these ideas!
Thanks! It was a fun excuse to revisit all of her books on my shelves. 🙂
Midnight-Blue-Light Special! I can smell the stale popcorn in the old Kmart snack bar as the manager screams and the blue light flashes! LOL GREAT LIST!!
Thanks! I get a country vibe for that one. 🙂
You’re right! — All of these would make great song titles.
It ended up being a surprisingly fun topic!
Yay! I love hearing that!
Come Tumbling Down would be a great song title!!!
Except I really can’t get the John Cougar Mellencamp song out of my head now…
This is a fun idea! You’re the only blogger I’ve seen so far to choose just one author. I’ve always loved her titles, and especially Midnight Blue Light Special and When Will You Rise, those would make great songs:-)
Ha, I had an entirely other list ready to go, but when I started to try to narrow it down to just one Seanan McGuire title, I realized I couldn’t!
All the ones you picked make me think of rock or alternative genre. Great list!
Thanks! I feel like there are one or two great ballads in there too…
This is great! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by Seanan McGuire, but I spot at least a couple that I’d like to try.
She’s amazing (well, obviously, I think so!).
