Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is The Last Ten Books That Gave Me a Book Hangover.
Instead of the most recent 10, I thought I’d go with a mix of older and newer books that gave me HUGE book hangovers.
1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Of course. This is a world I entered and never wanted to leave. And maybe that accounts for how many times I’ve reread the series!
2. The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell: Another I’ve reread multiple times. And no matter how many times I read it, it still packs a punch.
3. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: Don’t laugh!! It makes me cringe now, but thinking back to the early days of Twilight mania, as soon as I finished this book, I started it over again from the beginning, because I was on a trip, didn’t have New Moon with me, and couldn’t even think about reading anything else but this book, over and over again!
4. The Newsflesh series by Mira Grant: Honestly, I just could not get these books out of my mind. Once I started, I couldn’t stop until I’d read all the books and stories. Amazing!
5. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger: Another one that I had to start over from the beginning as soon as I finished reading it.
6. A Witch in Time by Constance Sayers: This book hasn’t even been released yet! It’s coming soon (early March — don’t miss out!), and I hope it’s a big success. I have not been able to get the story out of my head since finishing it. (Check out my review, if you’re interested!)
7. Our War by Craig DiLouie: Ooh boy, this book was devastating and disturbing, and with everything going on in our country these days, it’s no wonder that I find myself flashing back to scenes from this book.
8. The Pact by Jodi Picoult: This was the first book I ever read by Jodi Picoult, and it just about killed me. I couldn’t not shake this book off for a long, long time.
9. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein: Man, this book made me ugly cry so hard. I’m still not over it.
10. All the Winters After by Seré Prince Halverson: I loved the characters, the setting, and the plot itself, and just wanted more and more when it was done.
What books have left you with book hangovers?
Please share your thoughts, and if you wrote a TTT post this week, please share your link!
Outlander does stay with you. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/02/ttt-021820.html
Always! 🙂
Yeah, The Sparrow was incredible.
And I’ve heard so many people say nice thing about Outlander.
My TTT .
Outlander is probably my all-time favorite. I’m so glad to know you appreciate The Sparrow as well.
I’ve never read any of these books, but I have heard amazing things about The Time Traveler’s Wife and can totally see how it would give someone a book hangover!
It’s really a wonderful book. I had to read it twice in a row to make sure I fully absorbed it all and was ready to move on. 🙂
Oh yeah outlander would be on my list too!

Ha, I think Outlander appears on about 90% of my top 10 lists. 🙂
Great list! Ugh Feed broke me – I’m still not over it. I really want to try Code Name Verity and The Sparrow!
I know what you mean about Feed. I really want to reread all the books, but I’m a little scared to start again and get so caught up once more. Maybe the audiobooks next time around.
Yep.. I can’t believe I forgot Outlander! I read it after watching the show and it still killed me! Great list!
My TTT!
oops.. correct link here!
My TTT!
Outlander stayed with me for such a long time. It was almost impossible to convince myself to read anything else for a long time after that.
I’ve read the first 3 books and the first book is still one that I remember the most!
I haven’t read that Jodi Picoult book, but I find that all of her books give me a book hangover because they are just so good, hard hitting and really well researched!
I completely agree! She always finds some deeply emotional issue to focus the books around, and always manages to make them so personal somehow.
Ditto re The Time Traveler’s Wife! And, I am totally hooked on the Outlander TV series right now, so can only imagine how immersive the actual books are Lisa. Great post!
A novel I can recall having a huge book hangover from was Jenny T Colgan’s ‘Resistance Is Futile’ — it was so funny, moving and dramatic — I was just swept away by it.
The Outlander books are incredible! Definitely worth checking out if you’re loving the TV series. The Jenny T Colgan book sounds great! I’ve read some of her romances, but this sounds really different, so I’ll have to track down a copy.
Yes, I understand it is a little different from her usual romantic fare — this one published by Orbit Books and definitely a science fiction rom-com: https://bookloverbookreviews.com/2015/07/book-review-resistance-is-futile-by-jenny-t-colgan.html
I love your story about Twilight. I did exactly the same thing. When I finished it I immediately turned back to the first page and read it again!
I can make fun of it now, but at the time? Wow, such an obsession!
Fab list and YES to outlander and feed!
Such amazing books.
I love that image so much that I’m tempted to print it and hand it to my director on Thursday. Since i work at a library, I feel like that should be a legitimate excuse. xD Think it’ll work?
I haven’t read Feed yet, but have you read Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant? It was so spectacularly creepy that it stuck with me.
Here’s my TTT post.
I loved Into the Drowning Deep! I really hope she writes a follow up. I especially loved the first piece, Rolling in the Deep. That one haunted me for weeks afterward! I’ll never look at mermaids the same way again.
I still haven’t read Rolling in the Deep! I keep forgetting. Actually, I should go look for that now while I’m thinking about it …
But I really enjoyed Into the Drowning Deep. I’m just trash for monster in the deep books, and Grant/McGuire is just fantastic at creepy suspense.
She is amazing! Rolling in the Deep is SO good. I hope you enjoy it!
I LOVE all your memes!!!
Thanks! It was fun finding them. 🙂
I really agree on Code Named Verity! Have you read Rose Under Fire? I never got into Twighlight when everyone got obsessed and I feel kinda sad about that haha. Great list, here’s mine: https://bookslifeotheroddities.wordpress.com/2020/02/17/my-opinion-on-your-last-5-star-read/
Yes, Rose Under Fire was so powerful as well. Both books really had a huge impact.
I love all the little memes you included ❤ Book Hangovers are real!! haha the only one from your list I read was Twilight and it did give me a book hangover too
It’s really funny to think back on the Twilight years and how all-consuming those books were. 🙂
I really must get back to the Outlander series. I read the first book and then started watching the tv show. I’ve kept up with that but for some reason never been back to the books.
I remember really enjoying Twilight when I read it for the first time 🙂
Great list!
The Outlander books really are wonderful, so I do hope you go back at some point. 🙂
Oh, yes to Outlander and Twilight! 😉 The Fiery Cross made it on my list this week, but that’s just because it’s the last one I’ve read. I need to get to the next one!
My Top Ten Tuesday
They’re all so wonderful! Enjoy!
