Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Ten Books We Meant to Read in 2017 But Didn’t Get To (and totally plan to get to in 2018).
So many books, so little time. Here are the top 10 books that I really and truly had every intention of reading in 2017. Somehow, I guess life must have just gotten in the way.
1. In the Midst of Winter by Isabel Allende
2. George & Lizzie by Nancy Pearl
3. Midnight At the Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew Sullivan
4. The Waking Land by Callie Bates
5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
6. The Salt Line by Holly Goddard Jones
7. News of the World by Paulette Jiles
8. The Good People by Hannah Kent
9. Strange Weather by Joe Hill
10. Beartown by Fredrik Backman
Have you read any of these? Where do you think I should start?
If you wrote a TTT post this week, please share your link!

I’ve only read one of these, Strange Weather and I enjoyed it, especially the last story.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is certainly a catchy title; I’m going to have to find out more about that one, and The Salt Line looks good too.
Happy reading!
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Strange Weather! I love Joe Hill – I have no idea why I haven’t picked this one up yet.
I love this list – I haven’t read any of them but I’m keen to do so. This week is going to be shocking for my wishlist.
Lynn 😀
Ha, I feel your pain! 🙂
The Good People is one of my favourite books I read in 2017! If you liked Hannah Kent’s previous book Burial Rites, you’ll definitely love this one as well. Hope you give it another try this year 😀
I’m really excited to read it! I loved Burial Rites, and bought The Good People as soon as it came out. I postponed reading it thinking my book club might want to pick it for a later month, but I think I’ve waited long enough!
I haven’t read any of these but would love to find time to read News of the World and the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
I’m definitely excited for both of those!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was good but something at the end didn’t really work for me.

Hmm, that’s too bad. I’ve really enjoyed the other books I’ve read by this author, so I’m eager to give it a try!
Well it was good in spite of the element at the end that didn’t work for me. I don’t want to say more, because I don’t want to spoil anything. It didn’t ruin the book or anything but it felt sort of tacked on and unnecessary.
I bought News of the World intending to read it for a library book discussion, but then the date of the meeting didn’t work out — I still want to read it though!
I do too! I kept thinking I’d get to it next… and then “next” turned into “later”, and then… oh well.
Isabel Allende has such a beautiful writing style. I`ve only read two of her books, but I do plan on reading more in the near future.
Carmen`s Reading Corner
Which of her books have you read/enjoyed? I’ve read quite a few — I’ve loved most, although there were a few that I didn’t especially enjoy.
Evelyn Hugo and Salt Line made my list too! Technically Strange Weather could have; I’m still only in the middle of it. haha And ohhh The Good People! I’m not sure that’s even on my TBR…
Ugh, I really need to start Strange Weather! Usually I read Joe Hill books the second they come out. I guess because this one is four stories, I haven’t felt the same sense of urgency… but I really do want to read it!
Same. I didn’t start it immediately either which was surprising to me. I’ve been buddy reading it with my mom and she reads far, far less than I do so I’m just trying to keep pace with her.
Looked through Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore at a bookstore recently, the jacket blurb was interesting and strange. Will have to look for some reviews on that one!
I’m always drawn to books about bookstores. 🙂 I hope to get to it in the next month or so… I have high hopes!
Great list, Lisa! The Good People made my list this week, too. I love the cover of The Waking Land!
Isn’t it pretty? I’ll admit that this is one of those books that I was drawn to specifically because of the cover — luckily, the synopsis appealed to me as well. 🙂
You’ve got some amazing covers on here that make me want to read the books! 🙂 Enjoy!
Thanks so much! I’m really excited for all of these… if only I can find the time.
I totally forgot Midnight At The Bright Ideas Bookstore, I really want to read that one!

It does sound good, doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing your link!
Yes it does! No problem 🙂
I’d say #5 was worth reading.
Great to know! I’ve read the author’s other books and really liked them, so I’m sure I’ll like this one too — just need to make time for all of these. How are you finding any time to read these days???
Oh ahaha. I read it before the little one came. I read some because my mother in law is here helping me a lot. Postpartum complications are a “joy”
Sorry… Really hope to see you one of these days!
After Raph gets his two month shots!
Ah geez, instead of helping reduce my TBR pile, this is doing the opposite! Thanks for the reminder that I really must make time for more Isabel Allende, and Midnight At the Bright Ideas Bookstore is new to me but definitely going on the wishlist.
Ha, glad to help! These weekly lists make my TBR pile grow and grow…
The Good People and Beartown are on my TBR list, too. I hope you get a chance to read all these!
Me too, and same to you! It’s so hard to keep up!
It is sad to say, but I have still yet to read any of Joe Hill’s books. I have 2-3 of them but just haven’t gotten around to them. I hope you get the chance to start on some of these soon!
Thanks! Which Joe Hill books do you have? He’s so talented! I hope you enjoy them when you finally start!
I actually really want to read Isabel Allende’s House of Spirits this year. I hope you get a chance to pick up In the Midst of Winter this year.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy House of the Spirits — such an amazing book!
Oh no – I haven’t read any of these either! I’d probably start with The Good People or Bear Town. Happy reading!
Those are at the top of my pile!
