Somehow, I got myself all scrambled up with TTT topics, so I posted this week’s topic — Top Ten Unique Book Titles — last week instead. Rather than skip a week or repeat myself, I thought I’d do a variation on the theme.
For this week, I’m focusing on a unique kind of book title — titles that are one word only, and that one word is the name of a character in the book (or even a character mentioned but never seen, as in #9, below). And since I’m creating rules for my post, I’m only including books that I’ve actually read.
Here we go — book titles that consist only of a first name:
- Mariana by Susanna Kearsley (review)
- Venetia by Georgette Heyer (review)
- Arabella by Georgette Heyer (review) (it would be easy to fill this list up with just Georgette Heyer books, but I’ll stop at 2)
- Mandy by Julie Edwards
- LaRose by Louise Erdrich (review)
- Prudence by Gail Carriger
- Binti by Nnedi Okorafor
- Emma by Jane Austen
- Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
- Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott (yes, I realize that Ivanhoe isn’t the character’s first name, but I’m going with it anyway…)
And in case you’re interested — here’s the link to last week’s post, and here are the book on last week’s list:
- Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire
- Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire
- Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies by Michael Ausiello
- Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon
- The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Shumer
- The Porcupine of Truth by Bill Konigsburg
- My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
- William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope by Ian Doescher
- Intro to Alien Invasion by Owen King
- You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day

It’s so kind of you to share your words to the blogging community. It is appreciated… Would love your thoughts on my new short called peekaboo
Haven’t read the book, but in TV series or film format, I adore “Emma.” One of my Austen favorites. Also, Gail’s books have been on my TBR for a looong time now. Someday I’ll have to actually read them. 🙂
I love Gail’s books! The Parasol Protectorate is my favorite series, but really, they’re all amazing. (I went on a binge earlier in the year, and loved every minute.) 🙂
Good to know! 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland.
Great take on the topic! 🙂 I haven’t really read many one word books!
Thanks! Since I got ahead of myself with the topics, I had to come up with a different twist. 🙂
Great twist on the topic. I can’t think of any book with character’s title right now, except Eleanor & Park, but obviously, it’s not one word 😛 Loved your list!
Thanks so much! Maybe someday I’ll do a two-name list — I love Eleanor & Park!
Haha yes 😂
Rebecca! Oh gosh I loved this book! I was so surprised to see it on your list. Do you know it’s never been out of print since it was first published?
Wow, that’s really incredible! It’s such a wonderful book. I read it ages ago, then re-read it last year and loved it all over again.
What an interesting take on the theme this week, I love it!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your link!
All the titles you’ve chosen are very unique indeed!

Thanks!
I love your spin on the topic. I recently read Rebecca and really liked it.
Thank you! I read Rebecca years ago, but reread it last year and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it all over again. 🙂
