My Monday tradition, including a look back and a look ahead — what I read last week, what new books came my way, and what books are keeping me busy right now. Plus a smattering of other stuff too.
What did I read last week?
What You Left Behind by Jessica Verdi: Done! My review is here.
I Am Princess X by Cherie Priest: Done! My review is here.
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd: Done! My review is here.
Fresh Catch:
I went to a book event and it was awesome! Felicia Day gave a great talk and then signed a bazillion books. She was funny and smart (as you’d expect) and really lovely to all of her fans. And yup, I got a signed book!
What will I be reading during the coming week?
Currently in my hands:
The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach by Pam Jenoff: I’ve just started, but hope to power through in the next couple of days. Watch for my blog tour post on Friday!
This is release week for Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore! I will need to start reading this one the instant it arrives!
Now playing via audiobook:
I finished listening to the audiobook of The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. The review link is up above — I’ll just add here that the audiobook was phenomenal. The beautiful story was truly enhanced by the emotion brought to the audio by the two narrators.
And now…
I’m back to Jane Austen! I’m just starting Persuasion, which will be my fifth Austen audio adventure this year. I read the book so long ago that I hardly remember anything but the bare bones of the plot, so I’m really looking forward to diving back in.
Ongoing reads:
Two chapters per week for each of these, for my online book group discussions with Outlander Book Club. Both books should be done by December!
So many book, so little time…
Felicia’s book is awesome! happy reading!
You read it already? Glad to know it’s so good! I’m really excited to read it.
I got the audiobook. It’s fenomenal!!!
You’ve enjoyed a great selection
Have a great week

Thank you! I hope you have a great reading week too. 🙂
I’m currently re-reading Persuasion, which I haven’t read since I was 8 years old! So like you, I only remembered the bare bones. It’s so much better than I thought!! Hope you enjoy it 🙂
Also I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Gaskell, North and South is a brilliant read.
Thanks – I hope you enjoy Persuasion too! I’m looking forward to watching the movie again too once I finish the book. Really loving North & South so far — my group is discussing two chapters per week, so it’s slow going but quite fascinating.
It’s such a fascinating period in history and Gaskell always manages to capture the momentum of the industrial revolution and the social upheaval so well. Have you seen the BBC adaptation of North and South?
Not yet — I’m waiting to finish the book first. I hear it’s terrific!
It is! And Richard Armitage……. yes definitely worth watching 😛
Nice idea 🙂
Thanks!
Just finished the Pam Jenoff – it’s called The Last Embrace here, oddly – a few of her books have title changes when they cross the Atlantic. Irritating for people who are on holiday and grab it, thinking it’s a new Pam Jenoff, then they start reading it and realise they’ve already read it!
You’ll be aware this is something of a departure for me, but I was intending to “broaden my reading horizons”! It was okay, but I’m not a convert. I’ll be interested in your take – and look out for my review!
Oh, how odd about the title change! I’ve never read anything by this author before — I’m liking it so far, but I’ve only gotten about halfway. I’ll keep an eye out for your review!
I can’t wait to read Felicia’s book. I’m still missing her character Charlie on Supernatural. 😕
I’m so behind — I didn’t even realize she’d been on Supernatural! (‘cuz I never really watched the show…). I know and love her from Dr. Horrible, Buffy, Eureka… and can’t wait to read her book!
I forgot she was on Buffy too! I hope you enjoy her book. 🙂
I haven’t read any Christopher Moore books for a long time, I enjoyed Lamb and A Dirty Job. They were entertaining and really funny 😀
He just cracks me up, even though (or maybe because) his ideas are so weird. 🙂 Secondhand Souls is the sequel to A Dirty Job, which I loved, so I’m really excited to read it.
I think I’d look out for your review of that one when you finish 🙂
