My Monday tradition, including a look back and a look ahead — what I read last week, what new books came my way, and what books are keeping me busy right now. Plus a smattering of other stuff too.
I can practically taste summer! Can’t you?
What did I read last week?
The Mapmaker’s Children by Sarah McCoy: Although I read this book a few weeks ago, I finally posted a review this past week.
The Day of Atonement by David Liss: Done! A great book club discussion book — my review is here.
I also finished…
Yes, I’ve read it about a thousand times already. I decided to reread Outlander this year in sync with the TV series, reading the chapters that more or less matched each week’s episode. And now I’m done! It’ll be a long Droughtlander until season 2 rolls around, I afraid.
Elsewhere on the blog:
I did some spring cleaning! I went through and spruced up my Book Blog Meme Directory page, updating links and archiving out-of-date listings. Want to know more? Check out my post about it, here.
I also wrote a post about one of my newer TV obsessions, Turn. Let me know if you’re a fan too!
Fresh Catch:
I picked up a copy of Chris Pavone’s latest, after really enjoying The Expats. And thanks to a book club book swap, I received two books that look they’ll be perfect summer reads.
What will I be reading during the coming week?
Currently in my hands:
I’m really enjoying Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave… and the wine country setting doesn’t hurt a bit!
Now playing via audiobook:
Will I ever get tired of Patricia Briggs? I think not.
Ongoing reads:
One with the kiddo, two with Outlander Book Club!
So many book, so little time…
Awesome haul of books! I just read and reviewed Eight Hundred Grapes. I just thought it was an okay read. I had a few issues with it. I am glad you are enjoying it though.
Thanks! I had such a frustrating weekend in terms of reading — I had so much else going on that I barely could touch Eight Hundred Grapes, and I’d thought I’d finish it over the weekend. It’s suiting my mood at the moment, though — just light enough to keep me smiling. 🙂
I nearly watched an episode of Outlander the other day when I was doing some channel surfing, but it was mid-season and I want to read the book first, so I…watched ten minutes and then tore myself away. I’ll have to read the first novel soon!
It looks like you’ve got some good books on the go. What’s Eragon like? I’ve had it for an age but just haven’t read it *sigh* I can say that about many, many books 😦
Sadly, I’m in the same boat — so many books on my shelf still to read! Outlander is wonderful, and I do recommend reading the book first (although the TV series is excellent). I’m reading Eragon with my son, more or less (reading chapters when he does, sometimes with long stretches in between), so it’s taking forever. It’s mixed, really. It’s impressive that it was written by someone in his teens, for sure, but it feels like a mash-up of so many other fantasy books as well. I guess I’m glad to be reading it, but I’m not sure I’d describe it as “can’t miss” or anything.
The cover for The Mapmaker’s Children is lovely. 🙂
I’ve neither read nor watched Outlander yet, but I do intend to do both!
Do it, do it, do it! (Sorry, I go overboard… ) 🙂
You have a fantastic set of books here, lots that I would happily pick up, I especially like the look the Eight Hundred Grapes.
Thanks! I’m about halfway now and really like it… just frustrated that I’ve had so little time to read this week.
