Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic focuses on books that we’ve read already… but that are calling out for a re-read!
Here are my top picks for books I’d like to revisit:
1) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee: I read this during high school, and that was a really long time ago! I feel so derelict for not having re-read it sooner, but at least I have a copy now. I’m going to try to make time for a re-read during the next few months.
2) Lord of the Flies by William Golding: Another one from ye olde school days that I should probably revisit.
3) Either Emma or Persuasion (or both!) by Jane Austen. I really love both of these, and it’s been far too many years since I’ve picked up either book.
4) Any of the Vonnegut books I’ve known and loved — top contenders being Cat’s Cradle or Galapagos.
5) A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. I kept waiting to re-read this one, thinking perhaps that I’d convince my son to read it with me. He’s consistently turned me down, so it’s probably time for me to just read it on my own, and then maybe read the other books in the series too.
6) The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny: I never did finish this series. Of the 10 Amber books, I think I read only the first five, but it’s been a really, really long time. I should read the entire series, start to finish — and I’d really love to spend more time in this world, thinking about the labyrinth.
7) The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman: It hasn’t been that many years since I first read this one, but I’ve only read it once and feel like I’d enjoy absorbing more of the story and the atmosphere during a 2nd go-round.
8) Some older Stephen King: Could be any of his earlier works, but I’m leaning toward re-reading The Stand or The Eyes of the Dragon.
9) Anything by Louisa May Alcott, other than Little Women: I’ve read Little Women probably a dozen times, but there are quite a few books by Louisa May Alcott which I read once and barely remember now, such as Little Men, Jo’s Boys, Rose in Bloom, and Eight Cousins.
10) His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman: I re-read The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife back when The Amber Spyglass was about to be released, but that’s already a long time ago. I think it might be fun to read all three books straight through, even though I’m dreading the heartbreak that certain parts will inevitably bring me.

Nice list 🙂 The Stand by Stephen King is a great book, but it’s SO LONG! I’d love to read that one again too, but might have to wait a year or two before tackling it. The other book of his I’d love to reread is IT, but that’s another long book.
I know! I think it’s the length that’s keeping me from starting The Stand again, but I realize that I only barely remember the story, so I need to get to it eventually!
I need to re-read Dark Materials too! It’s been years!
I enjoyed Timequake and Slaughterhouse 5 so I might pick up Cat’s Cradle soon 🙂
I’ve never read Timequake — I should check that one out!
it was a strange one but I really enjoyed it!
To Kill a Mockingbird made my list this week too. It’s been so long since I read it and I think I would appreciate it even more now.
My TTT
I barely remember anything about TKaM, and it’s such a shame! I’m going to try to make it a priority in the next few months.
Oh my goodness I love you list! TKAM is also on my list. I recently read Lord of the Flies for the first time and loved it! I think Vonnegut is brilliant. I also just read my first Gaiman book and loved it.
Ooh, which Gaiman book did you read?
His Dark Materials is a favorite series to re-read for me. I’ve read through them all a few times and I’m never disappointed and I always get new things out of it. It’s sort of like Harry Potter like that.
I’m glad you’ve loved your re-reads of His Dark Materials! I’ve read the HP books more times than I can count — looking forward to revisiting HDM. Thanks!
Revisiting LOTF doesn’t sound too shabby. I’m pretty sure I can only remember a handful of key moments of the happenings myself!
Cheers,
joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts
Yes, and the bits I do remember are jumbled together with a movie version, so I’m not sure if I remember much of the book itself at all. Yikes.
I reread The Stand- not too long after I had read it for the first time. I enjoyed it even more, because I wasn’t so overwhelmed at the beginning with all the characters to keep straight!
It’s at least 20 years for me since I read The Stand, so I’d be starting practically from scratch! Still, I know it’s one of SK’s master works, and I feel like I should be more familiar with it.
Great list! To Kill a Mockingbird, Jane Austin, A Wrinkle in Time — all great picks for re-reads. Happy Tuesday! My TTT Post
Yay to the his dark materials reread!
It’s been too long for me since I last read His Dark Materials! Now that it’s on my mind, I really can’t wait! 🙂
I’ve reread To Kill A Mockingbird and Lord of The Flies and thoroughly enjoyed my rereading experience. If only we could have more time to reread!
I agree! It’s so hard to find time for new books, let alone books that we want to revisit!
I think I read To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school and I don’t remember it at all. That’s definitely on my re-read list too. Lord of the Flies was one I remember LOVING and would like to remember what I thought all the fuss was about. lol I need to read all Jane Austen (have only gotten through Northanger Abbey). A Golden Compass re-read would be fantastic too. I listened to the audios a few years ago (Pullman narrates, they’re amazing) but I’d like to listen again, they’re that good. Great list!
Ooh, Pullman narrates the audiobooks? I have to check those out! I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t remember a thing about To Kill a Mockingbird. Group re-read, perhaps?
