There’s nothing like a Wednesday for thinking about the books we want to read! My Wishing & Waiting on Wednesday post is linking up with two fabulous book memes, Wishlist Wednesday (hosted by Pen to Paper) and Waiting on Wednesday (hosted by Breaking the Spine).
This week’s pick:

The Vanishing by Wendy Webb
(to be released January 2014)
Synopsis via Goodreads:
Recently widowed and rendered penniless by her Ponzi-scheming husband, Julia Bishop is eager to start anew. So when a stranger appears on her doorstep with a job offer, she finds herself accepting the mysterious yet unique position: caretaker to his mother, Amaris Sinclair, the famous and rather eccentric horror novelist whom Julia has always admired…and who the world believes is dead.
When she arrives at the Sinclairs’ enormous estate on Lake Superior, Julia begins to suspect that there may be sinister undercurrents to her “too-good-to-be-true” position. As Julia delves into the reasons of why Amaris chose to abandon her successful writing career and withdraw from the public eye, her search leads to unsettling connections to her own family tree, making her wonder why she really was invited to Havenwood in the first place, and what monstrous secrets are still held prisoner within its walls.
Creepy and mysterious — my kind of book!

This looks good! Sigh, I’m really going to have no time to do anything but read in 2014 with the number of books I’ve added to my wishlist since starting blogging!
LOL. What better way to spend your time? (Someone at work said to me yesterday, “You read a lot of books”, and I had to refrain from rolling my eyes and responding, “duh!”). My wishlist just keeps growing and growing…
You can say that again. When ever I’ve got a moment of spare time…I’m reading. Your choice this week sounds interesting, I’ll check it out!
That is very true! Though I met a girl at pilates this week who doesn’t read at all! I think I must have looked quite confused and pitying when she said that! lol
Gah! I never know what to say when people say to me “oh, I don’t read” as if that’s perfectly okay!!! Or my cousin’s fiance, who told me that he hasn’t read a book since high school — which was probably 20 years ago. *dying inside*
He hasn’t read a book in 20 years?? I can’t even imagine that!
I have seen this book around a lot lately, and it looks really good. I really like the cover. It’s kinda spooky but also pretty at the same time.
I hope you get it soon 🙂
My WW
I really like the sound of it, and I love book covers with spooky/eerie mansions. Looking forward to reading this one! Thanks 🙂
Oh my that does seem spooky! I wonder if she is the long lost daughter?
My WoW
I know, I really want to find out about the “monstrous secrets”! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Ooo sounds creepy!! Ive never heard of this before but will be adding it to my wishlist 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Nice pick! That mansion looks fabulous! Not that I’d want to live in it LOL
Here’s my WOW
I don’t know, I MIGHT want to live there! Or at least go exploring some dark and stormy night… 🙂
Great. Sounds right up my alley 🙂
Happy Wednesday!
My WoW
Creepy, mysterious… and bookish! It’s kind of reminding me of The Thirteenth Tale in that regard, though I’m sure the similarities are mostly superficial.
*sigh* ‘Cause my TBR totally needs another book…
Right? I’m sure all of our TBR lists are just teeny-tiny. 🙂 I still haven’t read The Thirteenth Tale (I know, I know…), but I’m always a sucker for a creepy or weird mansion, family secrets, and mysteries about bookish people. Really looking forward to this one!
The author’s The Fate of Mercy Alban was one of my favorite reads for this year – I love spooky gothics involving secrets from the past – so I have The Vanishing high on my list of anticipated books too.
Oh, that’s great to know! I wasn’t familiar with this author, but I’ll have to check out The Fate of Mercy Alban too. Thanks!
Loved the Fate of Mercy Alban. Also love the setting! Thanks for highlighting it!
You’re the second person to mention The Fate of Mercy Alban, and I’m so glad to hear that people love it! I haven’t read it, but I’ll add it to my list of books that I need to check out. Thanks!
I got this off Netgalley and I’m super eager to start it! Love the sound of her other novel too. High hopes for this one. Great pick!
My WoW Pick!
I just got it from NetGalley too, and can’t wait! I hope our high hopes are fulfilled 🙂
*fingers crossed* 🙂
Great cover, too! Loving it! 😀
I love the cover for this, and I love how mysterious it sounds! Great pick!

I love the cover – it gives you that unique spooky and creepy feel without you having to read the summary. I hope this one will live up to its premise!
Thanks for stopping by my WoW! (:
