Wishing & Waiting on Wednesday

Wednesday is a perfect day for a good book meme, and I thought I’d branch out a bit! I’ve been participating in Wishlist Wednesday, hosted by Pen to Paper, for over a year — and I’ve been wanting to jump into Waiting on Wednesday (hosted by Breaking the Spine) for a while now too. So why not do both?

Wishlist Wednesday is a place to highlight any book from our wish lists — old, new, not yet released — that we’re dying to read. Waiting on Wednesday focuses on upcoming new releases.

Some weeks, I’ll probably have two different books to wish and wait for… but this week, here’s one that works for both!

My wishlist book this week is:

Lair of Dreams (The Diviners, #2) by Libba Bray
(release date April 22, 2014)

From Goodreads:

After a supernatural showdown with a serial killer, Evie O’Neill has outed herself as a Diviner. Now that the world knows of her ability to “read” objects, and therefore, read the past, she has become a media darling, earning the title, “America’s Sweetheart Seer.” But not everyone is so accepting of the Diviners’ abilities…

Meanwhile, mysterious deaths have been turning up in the city, victims of an unknown sleeping sickness. Can the Diviners descend into the dreamworld and catch a killer?

Why do I want to read this?

Because I absolutely loved The Diviners, and can’t wait to see what happens next! Evie is a fabulous main character, and I love the 1920s New York setting. The Diviners was a perfect mix of creepy and absolutely snazzy — and I was just so excited to find out this week that book #2 has a title, a cover, and a release date!

Who else is excited about Lair of Dreams?

  1. YES YES YES I want this book immediately. I loved the first book and I have been waiting forever for the second. It’s release date is still too far away! Although I don’t think I like the cover very much…

    • No, I’m not crazy about the cover either (and that seems to be the general concensus!) I think the paperback of the Diviners will match this one, but I definitely prefer my hardcover edition!

  2. Why not do both? Sounds like an awesome idea to me. BTW your directory sounds very useful… I shall be back!
I hadn’t realized there was a release date and cover for a Diviner’s sequel yet (the first book is still on my tbr pile) I shall have to get my skates on! Last I had heard LB was having trouble writing this one – she did a wonderfully funny post about it on her blog. So yey!

    • I’m glad LB got over the hump! She’s such a terrific writer — plus just a really funny person. (I still chuckle over the videos of her in the cow costumer from when Going Bovine was released). Let me know what you think of the The Diviners once you read it!

    • Count me in as one of the people who love Libba Bray! I still have to read her Gemma Doyle trilogy — but I’ve really loved her other books (especially The Diviners and Beauty Queens, which is hilarious).

  3. Ow this looks interesting. Still got A Great and Terrible Beauty on my night stand which I have to read but have been hearing a lot of good things on this author so might have to add this series to my shelves too.

  4. I really enjoyed The Diviners and while I really can’t stand the route they took with the new covers I’m still ecstatic for this one. The Diviners was fabulous on audio though so I may have to wait around and listen to this one as well. Great pick!
