Review Policy

All book reviews on Bookshelf Fantasies are honest expressions of my own opinions. Most of the books I read and review are books that I either buy, borrow from a friend, or borrow from the library. I occasionally receive review copies of upcoming books and new releases. When I do, I’ll always indicate in my review that it’s based on a review copy. No matter the source, I stick to my policy of writing honest, fair, and respectful reviews.

I am happy to accept books for review. My preference is for physical copies, although I may accept digital versions as well. If you have a book you’d like me to review, please contact me at lwolfsf (at) sbcglobal (dot) net. When emailing to request a review, please include the book title, release date, brief synopsis, cover image if available, and any other pertinent information. Please note that I am not currently accepting self-published books for review.

I don’t use ranking systems such as stars or points. I write what I think about a book, but a quantitative approach just doesn’t work for me. I always try to be clear about whether I liked a book and why. If I’m ever not clear, drop me a note! I’m happy to engage in conversations about books, so feel free to get in touch.

A note about spoilers. I hate spoilers in book reviews, especially those really obnoxious spoilers that sneak up on you out of nowhere. The problem with a spoiler is, once you’ve read it, you can never unread it. Therefore, my pledge to readers of my blog is this:

I will write enough about a book’s plot in order to describe what the book is about, what its strong points are, why I enjoyed it (or didn’t enjoy it), etc. I will not give away endings, surprise plot twists, or anything else that I wouldn’t have wanted to know in advance. And if for some reason it’s impossible to write the review without disclosing something spoilery, I’ll put a big fat SPOILER ALERT way up top, so you can look away if you need to.

Please note that if I’m reviewing a book that’s part of a series or is a sequel, I may disclose spoilers about an earlier book in the series. I’ll try my best to indicate that up front as well. If I mess up, just let me know!

Comments? Suggestions? Critiques? I’m all ears.
