Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Mainstream Popular Authors that I Still Have Not Read. I’m not sure what “mainstream” means (in the eye of the beholder, I suppose), but these are all authors who gets lots of buzz and/or time on bestseller lists… and I haven’t read their books!
- Colleen Hoover
- Elizabeth Gilbert
- Elin Hilderbrand
- Nora Roberts
- Janet Evanovich
- Jesmyn Ward
- Abraham Verghese
- Brandon Sanderson
- Sarah J. Maas
- Patrick Rothfuss
A few of these I just haven’t gotten to yet but likely will eventually; and some of the authors write in genres or styles that don’t always click for me.
Are there any here that you really love? If you think I should try any of these authors… let me know and try to convince me!
If you wrote a TTT post, please share your link!
There was a time I heard so much about Sarah J maas and thought I’d try her out, but I didn’t actually get to it. Haven’t read any of these yet either though Sanderson and Ward may eventually be read.
I think Sanderson is the one I’m most likely to try, although I’ve heard such wonderful things about Ward’s books.
Sanderson is one of my favorite authors! He writes so much, but it’s all very solid! I have never read something by him and thought it was bad.
That’s great to hear! I know he’s an author whose books I’d like to try, but he has so many that it’s overwhelming. Can you recommend where to start?
I think I started with either Elantris or Mistborn! I like the Stormlight Archives, but would definitely not start with that because it’s so long and probably isn’t going to be finished for a decade. XD
Sandersons, Rothfuss, and Maas are some of my favorites.
That’s good to know! I keep saying I’ll read Rothfuss once there’s a release date for the 3rd book in the trilogy… and I do want to read Sanderson eventually as well.
Fab list! I haven’t read some of these either!
I don’t think I’ll ever run out of new authors to read!
Yup! There’s always so much to read, and so many new books coming out all the time, it’s impossible to keep up.
I haven’t read most of your list either.

I guess I’m in good company 🙂
I’ve read Hoover, Hildebrand and Roberts. For Roberts I would recommend The Villa or Midnight Bayou.
Thanks for the recommendations! She has so many books that’s impossible to know where to start.
I haven’t read Sarah J. Maas either.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
I know she has really devoted fans, but for whatever reason I just haven’t been tempted so far.
I really liked the first few books in her Throne of Glass series, (including the prequel short stories), but then the third one was less interesting to me, and I haven’t gotten back to the series. I still own a couple of them, and hope to get to them someday, but who knows?
I put Colleen Hoover and Brandon Sanderson on my TTT list this week, too. I haven’t actually read any of the other authors on your list yet either.
Brandon Sanderson is one that I do want to get to!
Of your list, I’ve only read Evanovich, the Stephanie Plum series. They were pretty funny and I liked the characters, but she kind of wore out her series by leading readers on, so don’t really follow her any longer.
That’s too bad! I don’t often read mysteries in general, so those books haven’t really called to me.
Sanderson has been a popular pick today. Even though I’m not much of a SFF reader, I really enjoyed his Mistborn series. The original books anyway. I haven’t read the newer ones. I hope you enjoy all these authors when you get to them.
Happy TTT!

I think I have a copy of the first Mistborn book — just have to psych myself up to give it a try!
I loved Patrick Rothfuss back in the day, but he took too long to finish his trilogy so I’ve lost interest, lol.
Well, that’s why I never started! I picked up copies of the first two books and decided to wait for the 3rd to be released before starting… still waiting!
The only one on your list that I have read is Nora Roberts. I have a Colleen Hoover book on hold at the library, but that would be my first one by her.
I have friends who really like Nora Roberts, but I’ve never gotten around to picking up one of her books.
I feel like a bad bookseller for saying I haven’t read many of these authors, either. I will say I TRIED to read a CoHo book one evening when the store was slow… and I couldn’t do it. I have read Sanderson, and I’ve found his fantasy enjoyable enough. Maas, not so much, but to each their own.
Sanderson is one of the ones listed that I do intend to get to… eventually. It feels pretty daunting to start reading a fantasy series/world with so many books, but on the other hand, I have a feeling I’ll be glad once I get started.
I’ve only read Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love, but I’d like to try one of her novels to see if I’d get on with her stories. I tried one of Jesmyn Ward’s books (can’t remember which), but it didn’t click for me.
I’ve never felt particularly drawn to Elizabeth Gilbert’s books, although they seem to get so much praise and attention.
