Yes, you read that right! This post is a Top 5 Tuesday post — I’m participating in the meme originally created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm, now hosted by Meeghan Reads.
My usually Tuesday lists are linked back to the Top Ten Tuesday meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, but I just wasn’t feeling this week’s prompt, so I thought I’d do something different.
Books to re-read!! This topic is definitely in my sweet spot, since I’m a big fan of re-reading my favorite books. I’ll usually let at least a few years go by, although sometimes, when the next book in a series is on the horizon, I’ll do a quick re-read (or audiobook listen) to get a refresher on all the details.
Here are five I plan to re-read in 2022:

- The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien: I’m actually planning to start a LOTR re-read this year, and I’m leaning toward starting with the audiobook of The Hobbit (narrated by Andy Serkis) — but I also have this illustrated edition on my shelf that I may choose to spend time with instead.
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling: I’m looking forward to enjoying the gorgeous MinaLima edition of HP#2.
- When Sorrows Come by Seanan McGuire: The newest October Daye book (#16, Be the Serpent) comes out in the fall, so before then, I’ll be doing an audio re-read of #15.
- Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon: I read the 9th book in the Outlander series as soon as it was released this past November, but starting next week, my book group will be doing a group read, sharing and discussing two chapters per week.
- Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: This is another one for a book group discussion, and I absolutely do not mind the idea of reading it again!
Do you plan to re-read any books in 2022?
As always, if you have a TTT or T5T post this week, please share your link!
Hi Lisa, I’d also like to re-read The Hobbit. I read it so long ago (in high school). I loved it then but I bet I’d get more out of it the second time. Happy reading and re-reading!
I also read it originally in high school (and to be honest, didn’t love it) — but then read it out loud with my son when he was younger, and had so much fun with it! I kind of hate that my memory of The Hobbit is now mixed up with the movies, so I’m looking forward to getting back to the original.
I never saw the movies!! I must have been in a vacuum back then 😉
It’s been a while since I read the Hobbit as well. Hope you enjoy your revisits.
Thank you! There’s something so comforting about revisiting an old favorite. 🙂
I hope you will enjoy all of these upon reread!
Thank you! I’m looking forward to them!
Rereading is one of my favorite things to do. I hope you are able to get to these. I am hoping to read my first Madeline Miller this year after purchasing Circe.
I love rereading too. Circe is so wonderful — the audiobook narrator is very good, if you happen to feel like listening!
I’ve been switching between audio and physical copies of my books lately, so will probably be checking out the audiobook too. Thanks!
I’m not a rereader, I just feel like there are too many books out there I want to read, but I have a few I’d love to reread sometime. The Secret History is one😁
Interesting — I really did not like The Secret History when I read it, but I know I’m strongly in the minority on that one. I don’t know if I care enough to give it a second chance though.
I do love a HP reread! I don’t think emotionally I could read Song of Achilles again, it probably would break me!!!!
I’m worried about that for Song of Achilles, but since it’s for my book group, I’ll have to find a way!
I will say that if you get to the Hobbit and do the audiobook with Andy Serkis that it was amazing! I just finished it this January :D. (The Hobbit and LOTR are an annual reread for me so I am always looking for new methods).
So happy to hear this! I’m really looking forward to it!
Hi Lisa — welcome (back?!) to Top 5 Tuesday!! Umm, what a list!! I really need to read The Song of Achilles, and the Outlander series. And it’s been so long since I’ve read The Hobbit… maybe I can squeeze that in my list for this year too?! Hope you had fun this week 💕
I did have fun — thanks for hosting and coming up with great topics! It’s nice to be back 🙂 and I’ll probably be popping in more over the next few months!
Excellent!! I’ll add you to my list to check each week. Sometimes my pingbacks don’t work 😓
Awesome, thanks!
I plan on trying to reread Song of Achilles myself. It didn’t actually work out for me the first time but I think it was because I didn’t like the audiobook narrator (plan on trying in print this next time) and on account of my mood. I’m hoping to end up loving it as much as everyone does!
Funny, I listened to the audiobook the first time (and loved it), and was thinking maybe I should go with print this time! Mood does matter a lot, so your experience may (hopefully) be really different if you give it another chance — that’s definitely happened to me with other books.
I need to reread the first four books in the HP series eventually so I can finish the series. 🙂
Ooh, yes, for sure! Although I’m guessing by now you’ve probably at least seen or heard about the movies so that you know how the story ends. 🙂
