My Monday tradition, including a look back and a look ahead — what I read last week, what new books came my way, and what books are keeping me busy right now. Plus a smattering of other stuff too.
Life.
Life imitates art…
Anyway… what’s new in your neck of the woods? It’s been a quiet week here. Work, read, watch TV, repeat. Exciting, right?
What did I read during the last week?
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher: Super creepy horror, with a heaping helping of snark. My review is here.
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade: Fun, geeky, body-positive romance. My review is here.
The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde: My book group’s classic read — so delightful.
Well Played by Jen DeLuca: Super fun audiobook. My review is here.
Pop culture & TV:
I’m all caught up on The Boys. Season finale next week!
And… I’m thrilled that season 6 of Schitt’s Creek dropped early! Starting it tonight.
Puzzle of the week:
This puzzle makes me yearn for the day when we can travel again…
Fresh Catch:
Can’t wait to start!
What will I be reading during the coming week?
Currently in my hands:
It’s Discworld time again! Reading book #3.
Now playing via audiobook:
Without a Summer by Mary Robinette Kowal: I’m going back to the Glamourist Histories series for book #3. It’s so much fun.
Ongoing reads:
Outlander Book Club is re-reading Outlander! We’re reading and discussing one chapter per week. This week: Chapter 17, “We Meet a Beggar”.
So many books, so little time…

I enjoyed A Deadly Education, I hope you do to
Wishing you a great reading week
I’m excited to read it — although I have a couple of reading obligations (ARCs and book groups) that will keep me from getting to it for another week or so.
I’m reading A Deadly Education now… so far so good, but wow is Novik a versatile author…
I’ve only read Uprooted by her so far — I’m excited for this one, and still need to read Spinning Silver too.
Imo Spinning Silver is her best book – I loved the interplay of three strong women’s stories, and the fairy tale aspect. I read some more of Deadly Education last night though and I’m afraid it is hitting me wrong – it is very firmly YA, with all associated tropes, and I have some personal stuff going on that is making me feel approximately 100 years old. So the teenager BS is a little hard to take, even when well done, which it is.
Hmm, sorry you’re dealing with stuff that’s getting in the way of enjoying the book. Hope things improve quickly!
I hope my copy of A Deadly Education arrives soon😁 Have a good week, Lisa!
Thanks, Tammy! There are so many exciting new releases this month — don’t know how I’ll get to them all!
I hope you have a great reading week!
