My Discworld Reading Challenge

I’ve been talking about reading Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books for years now, and I think it’s about time to finally dig in and do it!

There are 41 books in the Discworld series, and apparently, so many different ways to read them!

I’ve checked fan sites and wikis, as well as book bloggers who’ve written about Discworld, and have seen so many recommendations about which sets of novels to read together, and where a good starting place might be.

But after giving it some thought, I think I’m just going to start with the very first book in the series, The Colour of Magic (published 1983), and then go in chronological order.

So, here’s the plan:

Starting August 1st, I plan to read one Discworld book per month, going in publication order. I’ll be taking it nice and easy, starting a new book on the 1st of each month. Let’s see how far I can go!

For reference, here’s the reading list:

1. The Colour of Magic
2. The Light Fantastic
3. Equal Rites
4. Mort
5. Sourcery
6. Wyrd Sisters
7. Pyramids
8. Guards! Guards!
9. Faust Eric
10. Moving Pictures
11. Reaper Man
12. Witches Abroad

  1. Good luck!
I just started reading this series as well! But I decided on a different route haha, I’ve started with the Death novels! So I’ve now read Mort, which in your list is book 4 haha! But it was so good! I found myself laughing out loud a couple of times!

    • I’ve heard that Mort is awesome! And I actually have a copy all ready to go, so that’s giving me incentive to dig in and get going. 🙂

  2. Good luck! I’ve read The Colour of Magic and am now reading The Light Fantastic. Not sure I’ll carry on in order but for now it’s suiting me. Hope you enjoy the series 😊

  3. Have fun!! I picked up Color of Magic earlier this year and it was just Not For Me. Obviously though it *is* for lots and lots people. Interesting about the different reading orders.

    • Thanks so much! One of the things I’ve heard is that The Color of Magic isn’t necessarily the best place to start, because the series changes so much over time… but I’m going to try it and then keep going, at least for now. 🙂

  4. Good luck!! 🙂
But you probably won’t need it because the stories are such fun that I’m sure you will enjoy them.
I need to continue with the Witches subseries. I’m loving them.

  5. Yes! The Discworld series is so amazing, you will love it! You can’t go wrong starting with Colour of Magic. I think the Witches books and the Tiffany Aching books are my favourites!
