Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, featuring a different top 10 theme each week. This week’s topic is Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (Or TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven’t Read Yet.
As of this summer, I’ve been blogging for four years. FOUR YEARS. Incredible. I started it on a whim, and here I am, all this time later, still blogging away. Just because I’m blogging about books doesn’t mean that I’m reading more books — in fact, it’s probably the opposite. Sad to say, there are enough unread books in my house and on my Kindle that I could probably go a few years without buying a single book before I’d run out of new stuff to read.
So, here are 10 books that I swear I want to read, which I’ve owned for over four years… and which I still haven’t gotten around to.
1) Four and Twenty Blackbirds by Cherie Priest
2) Affinity by Sarah Waters
3) In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson
4) Lilith’s Brood by Octavia Butler
5) Little, Big by John Crowley
6) World War Z by Max Brooks
7) Other Kingdoms by Richard Matheson
8) Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir
9) The Children of Men by P. D. James
10) Sorcery & Cecelia by Patricia C. Wrede

Hey, these look like intirguing titles. I particularly like “Affinity” cover.
I’m following the blog of a reader who has decided to never buy another book until she’ll have read all one the ones che already owns. She’s calculated that would take her about 20 years.
Here’s her blog https://746books.com/
I have a feeling Affinity is a book you’d enjoy! I’ve been meaning to read it for years. Where does the time go? I’m also following 746 books, and think it’s terrific. I thought about doing something similar with my buying/reading habits a few years ago, but I don’t think I have the discipline. 🙂 And basically, I try to avoid making rules for myself when it comes to something I do for enjoyment…
World War Z is on my list as well! I don’t know why I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Me neither! I’ve had it for years, and I avoided seeing the movie because I wanted to read the book first — so I ended up doing neither one. 🙂
I’ve heard a lot of mixed stuff about the movie so it kind of put me off of wanting to read it but I figure that the book is always better right? 😉
World War Z is extraordinarily well done. I thought the oral-history style was terrific. I listened to the audiobook version, which was great, but unfortunately abridged. So, I had to read the book too because I was so engaged that didn’t want to miss any of it.
That’s great to hear (that the book was so good — sorry to hear that the audiobook was a disappointment). I’m really looking forward to it. Maybe this will be the year I finally read it!
I like the look of the Cherie Priest book and the Little Big book is vey spooky looking.
Lynn 😀
The Cherie Priest book is the first in a trilogy, and their covers are all so great!
Nice list of books!!

Thanks!
Great list… I loved World War Z and Children of Men. I have thought about buying the books by Octavia Butler, but the covers are so off putting so I never have. Enjoy (when you finally get around to it lol )
I saw the movie version of Children of Men when it came out, and have been intending to read the book every since! Which Octavia Butler covers do you find off-putting? I’ve read 4 of her books so far, and think she’s an amazing writer. This one on my list is one I haven’t read because I’ve never found myself in the mood for something so hard sci-fi,.. but I will eventually.
The Octavia Butler one looks interesting. I love her. I have heard good things about World War Z too, but I wasn’t sure if it was for me. Maybe I will let you read it first so you can tell me if it’s worth it. You’ll be my guinea pig. 🙂
Which Octavia Butler books have you read? I love her too, but I haven’t read her alien-related series yet. Ha, I’d be glad to be your guinea pig with WWZ! Maybe I’ll finally read it before the end of the year.
World War Z piques my interest! I purposely haven’t seen the movie because I haven’t read the book yet! I’m a stickler for some reason about reading the book before seeing the movie adaptation! LOL! Happy reading! 😀
Thanks! This is exactly why I haven’t seen the movie either — I was going to read the book first, and that just hasn’t happened yet. 🙂
Little, Big has been on my list for a while now too. I think I’d really like it, I just keep getting distracted.
Me too! A friend has been pushing me to read it for years, and it does sound exactly like something I’d enjoy. Same old story — so many books, so little time!
I haven’t heard of most of these. But Innocent Traitor, sounds really good. I’m surprised because every list I’ve checked out this week has some sort of Tudor title on it. I’m a Queen Anne Boleyn historical impersonator and so I’m really into the Tudor time period, but there have been so many book released in the last ten years that its impossible to keep up.
My TTT: http://books.thetechchef.net/top-ten-tuesday-12/
Wow, an Anne Boleyn historical impersonator? That sounds fascinating! I agree, it’s very hard to keep up with all of the Tudor-related books that seem to constantly come out. What attracted me to Innocent Traitor is that the author has written a lot of non-fiction about the Tudor era, so I’m interested to see how she applies her historian’s eye to fiction.
Here’s a little bit about what I do as a historical impersonator http://thetechchef.net/about/other-projects/historical-impersonator-queen-anne/
I’ve been meaning to write about it on my book blog, but this summer has been just too crazy and I can barely keep up with my normal posts.
Oh, you are not the only one! I have tried to cull books I’ve had for so many years and not gotten to, but there are definitely plenty I’d still like to get to…eventually… lol
Richard Matheson is a very, very good writer. Only problem with being in the UK is he’s hard to find in the bookshops.
I’ve still only read one of his books (Somewhere in Time), but definitely want to read more!
