Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally
(published 2011)

I just love this series of girls-in-sports YA novels by Miranda Kenneally! The characters are so real and honest… and occasionally awkward:

“It’s a beautiful night…” Ty says.

“Yup. I love fall…”

“Me too. It’s my favorite season…”

“Mine too…” I eat another cookie.

Do we have anything to talk about?

When we’re hooking up, it seems like we have lots to talk about, but maybe that’s because we’re too busy kissing. This lack of conversation, this isn’t what love is supposed to be like, right? But what happens when you don’t find that right person? Do you just spend the rest of your life in a relationship where the conversation isn’t great, everything isn’t perfect, but it is nice and sweet?

What lines made you laugh, cry, or gasp this week? Do tell!

If you’d like to participate in Thursday Quotables, it’s really simple:

  1. Lovely. That sounds so much ‘teenage’… and not only. I suppose that a question everybody ask themselve when a relationship isn’t going the way we hoped.
That’s why I like YA stories… even if I’m far from my YA days ๐Ÿ˜‰ The insecurity of those years never really let go of us.

And you won’t believe it, but I have my entry up! Can’t believe it myself!

    • I agree, there’s something about good YA that speaks to us even when we’re WAY past those years! Stay in a relationship that isn’t perfect or risk giving it up and maybe being alone? Not just a teen dilemma!

  2. Oh yeah, I remember those excruciatingly painful dates when there was nothing to say *shudder* And not just when I was a teenager either!

    • Definitely not just a teen issue! But I love how the author captures the feeling, and is honest about the choices to be made. The character here is dating a super hot guy who’s really into her, and she’s never had a boyfriend before… so how important is the lack of conversation? ๐Ÿ™‚
