Welcome back to Thursday Quotables! This weekly feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week. Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines of the week will be, and you’re invited to join in!
From my current obsession:
The rational part of his mind told him she was just a fragment of unremembered bad dream that had followed him out of sleep and across the hall to the bathroom. That part insisted that if he opened the door again, there would be nothing there. But another part of him, the part that shone, knew better. The Overlook wasn’t done with him.

Author: Stephen King
Scribner, 2013
What lines made you laugh, cry, or gasp this week? Do tell!
If you’d like to participate, it’s really simple:
- Write a Thursday Quotables post on your blog. Try to pick something from whatever you’re reading now. And please be sure to include a link back to Bookshelf Fantasies in your post (http://www.bookshelffantasies.com), if you’d be so kind!
- Comment on this post with the link to your own Thursday Quotables post. Or… have a quote to share but not a blog post? Leave your quote in the comments!
- Have fun!

I love the idea of sharing passages of what we’re reading, it certainly fills in the space between reviews, creatively!
Thanks! I’m always finding bits and pieces of the books I’m reading that I’m dying to share… which led me to start Thursday Quotables! Glad to have you!
Great quote! I really want to read this one, though I probably won’t get to it any time soon. It’s been several years since I picked up Stephen King. 😀
My Quotes Post 😀
Thanks for playing! I’ve been really enjoying Stephen King’s new works in the last few years (Under the Dome, 11/22/63, Joyland) and loved re-reading The Shining earlier this month. I’m so excited for Doctor Sleep — just wish I actually had time to read this week!
I’d really like to read this one, but it’s such a long time since I read The Shining. I might have to re-read that first. Here is my first Thursday Quotables post.
I re-read The Shining earlier this month to get ready for Doctor Sleep, and I’m so glad that I did! I realized that my memories of the book had been completely overwritten by the movie version, and there really are some significant differences. Thanks for playing along with Thursday Quotables!

Oh, nice one! I do want to read this book — must get a copy! Thanks for joining in!
The part that shone?! It’s quotes like this that make me think I really need to read some Stephen King, I’m just not that much of a horror reader… 😦
I don’t generally care for the blood and guts and gore of most horror, but Stephen King is such an amazing writer that he’s really in a class by himself. I’d say try 11/22/63 if you want to read something by him that’s really terrific but isn’t horror. (I’m a fan — can you tell?)
Yes, I can! 🙂 I’ll take your suggestion under advisement. Thank you!
