Consider this an early “happy birthday to me” present! I’ve been wanting to set up a Little Free Library for years, and finally made it happen!
My husband did the assembly, I added the flowers — and then, the moment I’d been waiting for: Adding my first batch of books!
Our street doesn’t get a huge amount of foot traffic, but we’re right around the corner from coffee shops, some small stores, and a few small eateries. I’m excited to see our first visitors!
For now, we’ve just had a few nice comments from people on the street. Meanwhile, there are books and bookmarks ready to be taken home.
I hope someone finds just what they’re looking for!

Wow! Congrats! 🎉📚
Thank you!! I’m so excited 🙂
The ultimate dream!! That’s so cool, I’m so excited for you!!
Thank you! I’ve been talking about doing this for such a long time — it’s exciting to finally make it happen!
yay, then I’m so glad you were able to make it happen!! 🙂
Fabulous. We have one in our neighborhood and it gets a lot of use.
That’s awesome! There are a few that I pass on my way to work, and I’m so excited to add one to our block.
That’s such a lovely thing to do. I hope that you get lots of visitors.
Thank you! It was fun to see how people in the neighborhood stopped to ask questions while we were setting it up — we live in an urban setting, and people don’t really tend to interact very much, so that was really nice.
I wish I could do this but you can’t in an apartment building. However, there is a free public library just down the street from me in a public park!
That’s nice to have a library in a park! Last time I was in Israel, I remember seeing a library cart at one of the beaches too, which was awesome. There are a whole bunch of these little libraries scattered around our city, and I’ve even seen someone with a full-sized bookshelf outside his door on a busy sidewalk!
This is amazing, I’ve been trying to figure out how I could put one up here, but with all the snow in the winter, it has to be weatherproof. Do you know if yours is?
It’s supposed to be. I was worried about the weather too — we live just a few blocks from the ocean, and anything left outside tends to rust or deteriorate pretty quickly. I bought mine from the LFL site, and went with one of their composite libraries — according to the website, “plastic lumber made out of recycled milk jugs”. The price is higher than with the wood kits, but I felt like it was the better option for our weather.
It’s adorable. Good luck with getting some great books into the hands of eager readers.
Thank you! I’m having so much fun with it so far!
