When it comes to priorities, reading is right up there at the top of my list (along with food, shelter, and hugs).
I can and often do give up sleep (desperately needed, I might add) for the sake of another half-hour… or hour… or two of reading time.
Several years ago on a family camping trip, my son informed me that I didn’t know how to have fun — because while he and my husband were going out on the lake in a motorboat for an hour, I decided to stay on the lakeshore with a book and a blanket, and had a wonderful time reading in the sun instead.
Last week, I’d planned to go to a group exercise class on my lunch break… then skipped it when I realized I could put that time to better use finishing the book I was reading.
And over the weekend, my husband and daughter invited me to join them for a movie on cable… and I declined, because I’d been planning to read my book for an hour or so.
So, yes, I’m guilty of ducking out of exercise AND family time for the sake of reading.
How about you?

I am currently suppose to be preparing and studying for finals, but have been putting it off in order to read and sleep!
Been there, done that! 🙂 All that reading will put you in such a happy mood that you’ll be sure to do great on your finals.
I saw a meme that seemed fitting : I don’t have insomnia; what I have is a good book and insufficient respect for tomorrow. 🙂
Ha, love it!
I can easily skip the evening walk …
I can totally see that — it’s awfully hard to get up out of a cozy chair in the middle of a book to actually *gasp* go outside! 🙂
I have often stayed up too late at night & skipped out on exercise to read… I usually feel guilty about it, so I’ve been reading more audiobooks lately — that way I can go for a long walk and still fit in some reading time, now that it is finally nice out. Sometimes I go for a MUCH longer walk than I planned just so I can listen to another chapter or two…though whatever print book I’m also reading sometimes gets neglected if I get really into the audio one 🙂
LOL, I have definitely gone on longer walks (or stayed in my car after parking) just so I can finish my audiobook chapter!
