It’s a little hard to figure out which books have been lingering on my TBR list the longest. I started on Goodreads in 2011, but I definitely had plenty of “to-read” books hanging around before then!
In no particular order, a bunch of books that have been on my TBR shelf for a really, really long time:

4. The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, starting with The Color of Magic

8. The Eden Moore trilogy by Cherie Priest (omg, those covers!)
9. Moloka’i by Alan Brennert
10. Lisey’s Story by Stephen King

Bookshelf Fantasies 
I predict you will love I Capture the Castle, and it’s an easy read in a day. Am 3/4 way through audiobook of 1776 and while amazing to hear how it all could have so easily gone the other way, it isn’t gripping me, maybe I need to read rather than listen. All Terry Pratchett works are a delight, suspect you should start with Wee Free Men, hilarious and magical. Sirens of Titan not my favorite Vonnegut but read it in high school, so may have a different take now. Have not been able to finish any of Brennert’s Hawaii books, though I think I’m alone in that. I have zero recollection of My Cousin Rachel and Charing Cross, No idea why ithey didn’t stick!
Hmm, I was maybe going to do audio for 1776 — but now, maybe not! Thanks for the advice re Wee Free Men. I know I want to explore Discworld, but I’ve heard so many different opinions on where to start. I read a lot of Vonnegut in my college days, but this is one that I missed. 🙂
To qualify my comments about listening to 1776, I listen on my 50-min commute and In the audiobook’s defence, it was a vey busy time at work, which tended to pull my attention away while listening. I am probably 2 hrs from the end of the book but realized I needed to stop temporarily because I couldn’t focus. I got the cd book set from my library’s free shelf, so I’m definitely going to go back to it, just need to be in the mood for history and choose a time when work isn’t so busy. (And will probably have to start over!). Having said all that, history-book wise, my listen to Lincoln, Team of Rivals, was terrific (and actually helpful leadership advice at work!), tho the intro chapter to each rival was a little slow but very necessary.
Thanks for the info! I’m a little hit-or-miss when it comes to history audiobooks. Sometimes I find it hard to retain the needed amount of detail to keep tracks of all the facts and figures being thrown at me. Having a hard copy to reference is helpful (and otherwise, I miss being able to see the pictures.)
LOVE LOVE LOVE Charing Cross Road–you can read it in a few hours. It’s one of 2 on your list that I actually also love the movie! Capture the Castle is the other–I love the movie as much as the book. I read and love everything by David McCullough. My Cousin Rachel is awesome! I loved Rebecca and the King’s General is my very, very favorite of her books. Oh please read them! lol
Oh, awesome — I didn’t actually realize that there were movies of Charing Cross or Capture the Castle! I’ve been wanting to read more Du Maurier — I’ve only read Rebecca (love!), but I have copies of My Cousin Rachel and Jamaica Inn. I’m really, really going to try to get to these books this year!
Do read The King’s General!!!! And the movies are well worth it–try the library (or inter-library loan) or a cheap used copy. Both are so good. Plus Judi Dench has a small role in Charing Cross.

I’ve been hearing about it (I Capture the Castle) for years! I even brought it on my vacation with me recently, but then got caught up in other things. One of these days… 🙂
The Colour of Magic is one I’ve started and have left unfinished for no reason whatsoever (except moving house)! I must must must get back to it 😀

I read 1776 a few months ago and very much enjoyed it! I admittedly had just read Ron Chernow’s massive Washington: A Life. I will say that I learned more about the battles of Trenton (did you know there were two?) from the biography. But I still enjoyed 1776!

The great thing about Discworld is that all the books stand alone, so that you don’t feel like it is one long series that must be read.
That’s what I’ve heard 🙂 but there are still certain worlds/stories that go together, right? I’ve been told there are multiple points of entry and storylines to follow. I’m sure if I just jump in it will be fine, but from the outside looking in, it seems a bit mind-boggling.
Great list, Lisa! I Capture the Castle and Tooth and Claw are both on my TBR, too. I love Daphne du Maurier but My Cousin Rachel hasn’t been my favourite so far – the recent adaptation with Rachel Weisz and Sam Claflin is fantastic, but I found the narrator of the book so irritating. I hope you enjoy it more than I did!
