Feral Hippos!

I don’t know why, but I’m ridiculously excited for the release of this new novella:

River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey releases tomorrow (5/23/2017), and is an alternative history with a truly weird premise:

In the early 20th Century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true.

Other true things about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.

This was a terrible plan.

Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe. It is the story of Winslow Houndstooth and his crew. It is the story of their fortunes. It is the story of his revenge.

Sounds crazy, right?

I can’t wait for this to hit my Kindle tomorrow. Stay tuned for my reaction once I get to read the darn thing!

  1. I saw this on Netgalley and to be honest I was hesitant. It just seemed too out there for me. Seeing that someone else is excited about it makes me second guess myself. I will be waiting to see what you think about it!

  2. When I first saw this I kind of laughed at how silly it sounded but it must have stuck in my head because the more I thought about it the more awesome it started to sound. lol Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

    • I know, it sounds crazy — but yeah, I just loved the idea of it! I’m planning to read it this weekend, after I finish my current read.

  3. I’m originally from LA and we have a family inside joke about hippos, so looking forward to your review on this one!
